Chinese GP 2009 - Race 3/17

Some would argue that the major difference twixt now and then is not the driver but the car.

Thus hinting to what many people have already said on here, he's only quick in a good car. People readily slated Kov's driving abilities in comparison to Hamilton, yet it was Lewis that frequently went off, not his supposedly inferior team mate. Last year many would have said that Hamilton was the rainmaster, if that was so, where was he today? Vettel managed to pull out a win last year in an inferior car in the wet, surely the McLaren is closer to the front than the T/R was when Vettel won in it.
To sum myself up, Hamilton had a poor race even by his standards.

Well done to Vettel and RBR, for me Vettel has just proven that he is F1's current 'rainmaster' well deserved results.

I thought it was more down to the Red Bull handling the conditions better.

Interesting to see the L/H fanboys have gone a little quiet, although some are still attempting to defend his 4? trips off the track.

Yeah, but he also overtook ex-"World Champion" Kimi Raikonnen 3 times, or was it 4 in the end? :p

Hamilton should have just crawled around like Massa did and focussed on keeping it on the track but his aggressive nature and inexperience showed yet again.

P.S. Shame about Sutil burying it. :(

Kova kept his head, and did the sensible thing by not taking risks; and it paid off. As I've said before I think Heikki is a pretty good driver, if not top tier and certainly inexperienced. Here, Hamilton showed his skill in the wet with his moves on Raikkonen and others, but, as mmj_uk and Lopéz eloquently describe:

Frustrated with Hamilton, lots of fearless moves on the track but lots of daft mistakes too. Maybe he just needs to learn when to rein it in.

he squandered the lead he gained through his skill in the wet with an overeager temprement. Hopefully he can learn that without losing his edge.

Yup, it was a poor race by his standards. He only managed to pass two world champions that started in front of him.

As I said, there are many factors at work and we're not privvy to all the data. To dismiss Hamilton's performance today so casually when he decimated the field in the rain at Silverstone last year is over simplistic in the extreme. Some would argue that the major difference twixt now and then is not the driver but the car.

The car is playing a role no doubt; but I think there's an element of luck of the draw in there. Hamilton has always had pretty mixed results in the rain. My take is that he is one of the fastest drivers in the rain - a skill that has seen him pull off a stack of impressive overtaking maneuvers in tricky conditions - but he doesn't have the true rainmeister's ability to know when to peg it back just enough to keep all four wheels on the dark stuff. At Spa he got a bit lucky, so the former ability paid healthy dividends, here -with a bit less luck - he explored the grass.

Quote of the day - Brawn GP pitlane - to JB - 'Vettel is only quicker due to fuel effect'

Clearly not, it was the driver effect lol!

Good race, Bahrain might see a point for Ferrari, hopefully!

Ferrari need to stop hanging about, sack Kimi and get alonso in place now. That way they can settle and get a car together sooner rather than later.

Its clear to see Kimi has lost his way. Its also clear that alonso still has the desire. Even when Kimi won the title he was crap for large parts of the season, prompting calls then for him to get the boot.

For the money they pay him he's a disgrace. I used to really like him, one of my favourites of this decade but he really doesn't look like he's doing anything other than taking a paycheck.

Theres some great young drivers about now who are clearly hungry and have the talent, I'd rather see them get a chance.

Thats highly debatable :D

No it isn't. As much as I like webber he's not exactly highly rated like vettel. Yet webber matched his pace for the most part. That to me suggests it was mainly due to how great a car redbull provided rather than an exceptional drive.

Lets not forget webber hasn't exactly had the best preperation coming into the season either.

Not really, had Webber not been battling with Button early on he would have stayed with Vettel.

No idea which race you were watching ;)

Vettel and Webber quickly pulled away from the chasing Brawn duo, who swapped places on lap 10 when Barrichello ran wide at the final corner.

By the time the scheduled pitstops began with Webber stopping on lap 14, Vettel enjoyed a six-second lead over his team-mate and a 14s cushion back to Button.

Interest that Ferrari are thinking of giving up already. Kimi looks like he already has tbh :p

Is Alonso really going to want to go to Ferrari though - Renault have a car that is as good at the moment, and he gets along with the team and knows them well, Ferrari meanwhile look like they are on the decline.
