Chinese Grand Prix 2012, Shanghai - Race 3/20

rosberg changed setup at the last minute to a setup that gets more heat into the tyres so if its a cold/wet race he will have an advantage but if its not hes probably going to have tyre issues

And Lewis changed his to a race setup because of his penalty.

I don't know where you lot get this from that Merc will be going backwards.

- previous race performance
- driver comments on the car and it's tire usage
- Brawn's comments on the car and it's tire usage
- the fact that they always do after quali
- the fact tha their advantage is much larger in quali than the race

I guess we will see tomorrow. I expect to see at least one on the podium.

do you even read the comments?

Arknor, Brawn himself (the boss of the team), stated that he is worried about tomorrow's race. He said qualifying is good, but its the race performance that he is working on.

Off topic for a moment, James May just did a short documentary piece for this afternoon's Grand National and said that the average weight of a thoroughbred racehorse is about the same as a Formula 1 car. I found that interesting because who could lift a horse? :p Whereas it looks pretty easy to lift an F1 car, by comparison at least.

Indeed. I've never touched an F1 car, but they do look very light - as if an average man can lift it from the front. I'm assuming though, that the engine and gearbox are the heavy parts. Would you be able to lift an engine?

You aren't really lifting an F1 car when you grab it by the nose and raise it off the flore though are you? It's just pivoting on it's rear axle.
Racehorses do indeed weigh roughly the same as an F1 car but they don't have a decent pivot point so yes, you would struggle to "lift" one the same as you would struggle to get underneath an F1 car and bench press it.

So the race will actually start at 8am, so if I want grid walk etc, I need to be up for half 7? :)

ferrari with a **** car can win races but merc cant? only rosberg is whining about tyres the same as only rosberg kept running out of fuel last season

Ferrari got lucky in the conditions (with the added advantage of Alonso driving). Are you saying the only way Mercedes can win is if they get lucky?

If Merc had Alonso, they would be in with a chance of a win. Alonso knows how to take care of his tyres. MSc is also a good driver, but you can't compare him with Alonso.

If MSc was in his prime, it would be a no-brainer and I would advise everybody to put money on a Merc win tomorrow, but Merc seem to be do badly in races and don't have a top line race driver. On the other hand McLaren have arguably the best race car and have 2 drivers, both better than the Merc drivers.

Merc can win, but McLaren are much more likely to win.

My money would be on Hamilton.

It has nothing to do with taking care of the tyres and everything to do with the fact that the design of the car means there is a narrow window in which the tyres work at their optimal performance.

So if the conditions tomorrow are within that window, then you're more likely to merc pull away. If not then the reverse might be true.

On a different note. WTF is wrong with both Sky and BBC talking over the team radio broadcasts. Grrrr.

Have we heard anything about how Vettel has taken his lowly qualifying position?
Has he called anybody any names? Have any toys been thrown about?
No doubt he will be sulking and wishing that he had used the same chassis version which Webber used.

One good point about his qualifying position is that we shall get to see just how good he is at overtaking.
