if you qualify high up but shred your tyres, after the first round of pit-stops, you could've lost a fair few places.
From what I've seen, double DRS works great in qualifying, but in the race it counts for very little (this may vary from track to track, though).
Think I will get up early for the race, but not sure I will bother with quali.
It'll be interesting to see which teams jump straight on it, who do it as new parts are developed anyway and who just doesn't bother.
Its why I think there has been such an effort by some teams to get it banned. They have no serious plans to copy it so want it illegal so nobody else has it.

Yeah with the F Duct and things it was "is it legal?", "yes", "GO GO GO!"
Were what, 8 weeks on from this device first surfacing and they are still asking if its legal before they 'dedicate resources to it'... If Red Bull/McLaren/etc thought it was worth it they would have taken the FIA's "yes" from back during testing and had the devices on the cars themselves by now.
This will be the acid test.
Its very easy for teams to make protests, but if they truly believe that this device is "worth it", then they will spend the resources and attempt to implement it. If they don't bother, then this will tell us that they believe that the device just isn't worth the trouble.
R.Brawn has stated that retrofitting the device to a car for which it was not designed, is very difficult.
Winning from 6th on the grid, with Button, a Red Bull or two, A Merc or two, Alonso etc all in front of him will be a tall order. He could well be starting 7th or even 8th... I wouldn't put money on Hamilton to win.I know that Hamilton is taking a 5 place grid drop...
Hamilton will have Button, Vettel, Webber, Schumacher and Grosjean infront of him. Grosjean, Schumacher and Webber will be quickly dispatched, Vettel will be overtaken in a pit window, and Button will be overtaken in the next pit window if at all. If he can't get past Button, Hamilton will come second behind him.
I don't think mercs perceived tyre issue is related to ddrs, it's just how the car is.
You're right of course that ddrs is next to useless in the race but qualifying is important, every team wants to start on pole and run to the flag - no complications, no drama.

Interesting how MS is getting more mentions than NR these days...
