Chinese Grand Prix 2013, Shanghai - Race 3/19

I really don't know why they can't extend the 107% rule to all qualifying sessions, so everyone from 17th upwards has to qualify within 107% of the fastest qualifier in Q1, everyone from 11-17th has to qualify within 105% of the fastest guy in Q2, and everyone in Q3 has to get within 103% of the fastest guy in Q3, don't do a time, start at the back of the grid, miss the cut off, if it was a genuine attempt and got blocked/whatever then start at the back of that section (10/17/last), if because the car didn't try, back of the grid.

They need to categorically stop people going slow, stop people wasting time, stop people not doing times at all and get people to go out, and freaking compete over qualifying. Extra couple sets of tyres and expect people to go out for 2-3 runs in each session, its a spectator sport and people who go to qualifying really don't see much going on anymore. If they actually made the racing about the cars and drivers instead of the tyres, they could do it more like the Q3 under inters/wets where everyone goes out for 10 minutes with enough fuel, tyres that can still do a pretty good lap after 5 laps, and people doing several "fast" laps.

Why bother with this complexity when they could simply bin the stupid "start on same tyres" rule and let everyone choose whichever starting tyre they like?

It was a joke, there was what 10-15 minutes of on track action today in total for qually? I just fast forwarded through most of it. I don't watch qually ****** drivers sitting in their garages for an hour.

I woke up to q3 at 9 mins remaining and just watched it from there.

Pretty pleased with myself now. Sounds like a real snooze-fest :p

If the lotus is good on the tyres then Kimi is in with a chance tomorrow. I can't see the Merc pulling away at the start, so Ham will need to make up ground in his second or third stint.. Providing they've fuelled him enough.

Or even introduce a qualifying tyre?

If it was me, I'd only give them a single Quali set. Super soft and grippy, but essentially made of chewing gum. :D Will do 2 slow laps and one fast lap, and that's it.

Tactical time. If you don't use it, you may not get out of that Quali session so the tyres are wasted. But if you do use them, you may get through. But then again, you may have got through without using them and could be up against people who haven't used their set yet.

They really need to change the qualifying rules so they can run whatever tire they wish at the start of the race. Now we have the crappy tires that get destroyed after a few laps we don't need this rule any more. Let them start on whatever tire they like so that we get some proper qualy shoot outs with drivers actually extracting as much performance as they can and we don't have this rubbish where there is nothing happening on track.

I thought F1 was supposed to be going more green and less wasteful? Surely making tyres that last a few laps is just going backwards on that?
