Both ways work well. Depends on whether you have a plate handy or not though... You kinda need to re-squirt your load if you blow it all over just the top layer of chips, but sometimes it's the only way if you're eating from a cone or whatever.

Ketchup is generally too bitter/vinegary for my taste tbh.

I actually like the cheaper imitations (which my friend refers to as "red") which tends to be sweeter.
