It depends. If I have curry sauce from the chinease or chip shop it's all over. If I've got plain chippies it's salt (no vinegar, eww) and BBQ sauce for dipping

I have a routine with my chips.

Vinegar > salt > sauce.

The vinegar will make the salt stick better. Then I just squirt sauce all over them.

Whatever sauce/mayo goes on the side for dunking (with chips or whatever I'm having with them).

Don't normally have ketchup though

Always on the side but I generally do not have any sort of sauce with chips, the sauce is decided by whatever the chips are with.

On the side, for dipping. Otherwise you end up with some drenched in Tommy K and some with none on.

I find you use less ketchup if you put it on the side

Tatare sauce is far superior.

The technique depends on if someone is going to try and steal a chip. Covering it with sauce the person doesn't like eliminates the chance of a chip thief.
I'm protective of my delicious food.

I actually am more likely to put horseradish on chips than ketchup.

Side of plate but never ketchup...disgusting stuff, either mayo or HP for me depending on my mood.
