Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - Fps/hand to hand combat sim ( INDIE )

I've sunk about 90 hours into this game and still love it. Seeing this thread has forced me to go play it after writing this post.

Steam Summer Sale bump!

Starting to get the hang of this, although I'm minced mostly, still. I'm enjoying the two-handed game, and I wonder which class people would recommend for my playstyle. I like to got for 1 vs 1s if I can, with a weapon that offers a good balance between damage and speed.

Before the patch I would have definitely recommended the man at arms. His dodge didn't used to have a cooldown which allowed you to wind-up attacks, dodge towards the opponent scoring an instant hit then dodging back out of their range. It sounds really overpowered, perhaps it was, but it was difficult to consistently do it well which made it pretty skilful. Needless to say that suited 1 vs 1 nicely but now the cooldown makes it a bit too sluggish for me so I prefer the knight. The HP advantage over the other classes is pretty significant and the default two-handed sword + broadsword makes him a well rounded fighter. He can deal some nice damage with the two-hander and able to compete against good MAA with the one-hander. Try both classes and see which you prefer. I do sometimes play vanguard with the spear when the fighting is in quite narrow areas (e.g. last stage of stonehill where the king is being attacked).

Seeing as the sale has brought quite a few new players here's some general tips:

  • Use alt attacks. They generally swing faster, deal the same damage as normal attacks and use different animations to their normal attack counterparts which make them more difficult to read.

  • Use combos. Mixing up alt attacks with normal attacks seems to throw a lot of people off.

  • The amount of blood on a player indicates their health so always focus on the bloodiest enemy :)

  • Managing stamina is important. Back out of fights when you're low. Obviously the same applies to HP.

  • Feinting is good but I don't personally overdo it. It's the best opener when you're 1 vs 1 and each person is reluctant to make a move.

  • Don't swing when you're in a team fight. Overhead for most damage and stab when they're nearly dead.

  • If someone is just hiding behind a shield you should try get right in-front of them and overhead attack. Alternating your swing attacks is also a good way to exploit openings.

  • Aim for the head.

Servers just crapped out for me.. I think steam went odd.

I suck at this game.. but sometimes for a few minutes I can kill some people.. I guess its luck and people being bad :P

How are the servers for you?

Because of the way this game functions, the slight bit of lagg can leave you dead at every encounter, really ****ing me off as it seems like a game I could really sink some time into.

Any idea's anyone? Servers okay for everyone else?

Good game if a bit repetitive. Usually go vang or knight with shield and hammer/sword.
As vang hardest opponents. for meare another vang using a polearm thrust weapon.

Best tip i can give is learn block AND Move when you are attacking u can start an attack out of range but hit because of movement. Being good at feint is good advantage as well.

But of course the main thing which annoys me about this game.....and which annoys me about every fps on a pc...hackers :( and silly me i said i would never play pc fps again.

You might notice some ppl who are deadly good as archer...and when they change to dagger they are somehow able to block attacks from multiple opponents front and behind. (dude snapped to face and blocked at the same time like some freakin robot ninja).

Existing hacks for fps games which work on this game engine work on this...dont think there is any cheat protection in this game....guess its back to console fps again.

Thanks for that Sniffy!

The game can be frustrating, but also very enjoyable. A killstreak is a fine thing. Archers can be divided into two groups: those who generally suck, and those who are amazing at range and in melee. Some of them own me as a knight simply because they can attack so fast and I can't do anything about it.

The most annoying class at the moment has to be the Javelin dude. They are too easy to play. I tried one out and it was killsville.

Shame ranks don't do anything as, once you've unlocked your favourite weapons, there's nothing else to play for except the match score.

No problem.

Due to the delay on the arrows you can quite easily throw-off archers by simply moving side to side in a random manner similar to how you'd throw-off snipers in FPS. Unless they're really close they will miss about 90% of the time.

I tend to just block archers who are good with daggers so they run out of stamina. Once they have zero stamina and attempt to block they will stagger which gives you opening to slaughter them.

We should pick a server us OcUKers can frequent :)

Played a bit of this last night, not been on it for several months. Rusty doesn't even cover what my state of play was :p I used to be mental with a Vanguard, but I was dogpoo last night :(

Are there any servers people would recommend? I dunno if it's just how the game is and won't change but I often get annoyed with team killers slashing and people invading your fights then accidentally team killing you.

When I discovered this game I had kinda hoped it would be more 1v1 based, like in films, unless films are just romanticising medieval battles, I always imagined people fighting mostly 1v1 with people not coming up behind the enemy and killing them.. or invading your fight because you're doing fine :p.

Maybe i've got it wrong but wheres the honour!

I assume in some servers that aren't so public people are generally more respectful.

I need to play this again, we should get a regular server going. I enjoyed it the short time I played it.

Really feel some game types using the team side of play.

Nothing more fun then charging into battle against 5 others knowing you will die. But just flailing around, taking 2 out then your head rolls... So much fun!

Most frustrating game ever :D
Reminds me of CS when everyone decides to play knife only.

The noises the players make are hilarious, just discovered last night z,x & c :D "foooooor the Gloooorrryyyyyy"

I'm up for playing some, new player but if we can find a server with a decent ping then it will be fun.

If you want to leave your steam names ill add a few of you, mines theonejat.

Any suggestions server wise?

"C" is officially my favourite ever keyboard key. :D

Never fails to be hilarious when you just pull out the fists and run around lamping people, too. Especially when their heads explode after a rather vicious decking. :D

Love this game.
