Choppy graphics in game - GTX 680.

I have done a fresh install just waiting for Steam, Origin & Uplay :o to download the games then i'll let you know how I get on.

Saw a thread with a while back saying a lot of stuttering issues are down to people not setting up their memory timings, maybe some more info bout your PC, if its new, or if its just a new card etc will help clear a few things up.

It's a strange sort of stuttering I doubt it has to do with my memory timing it's constantly and only happens when I move the mouse to look around in certain games. I have uploaded a couple of videos please read up. Just incase it may be my pc here are the specs - old pc had it for a while.

i5 2500k @ 4.2 stock volts
G Skill Ripsaw X DDR3-1600 running with stock speed/timings.
GTX 680 currently @ stock
240 GB Samsung SSD
Asus Maximus Gene Z/Gen 3
700W Modular Coolermaster PSU

Is a way to disable or override the boosting thing that they do?

I have a feeling it's got something to do with a fluctuating clockspeed that's making your frame output inconsistent, as if the GPU usage is spiking up and then dropping as the stutter looks fairly consistent as if it's to do with frame times.

Hehe gregster :D I can't really recommend a 680 I had no end of trouble with them.
I tried everything nothing worked! :(
Bought titans in the end and no such issues :D
I feel for you!
Glad u sorted it :)

Disclaimer: Rant follows and it is not aimed at the OP who I admire for having the logic required to fix the problem rather than blame it on Nvidia's drivers or hardware. :)

This demonstrates that most driver issues are not down to the card/manufacturer/poor drivers. I don't mean in an AMD vs Nvidia way but in general.

Most people refuse to do a fresh install and continually blame drivers and manufacturer rather than accept Windows GPU drivers are not a self contained entity. They exist on an OS that is integral to the operation of the GPU and as such the problem may be the actual OS.

We also see many user blame a card/manufacture/drivers for problems they are having with lockups in one game. They never assume their "stable" OC may not actually be stable. Many are even reluctant or flat out refuse to try the cards at stock clocks.

Then there is the users who have just swapped vendor without doing a driver sweep. "This never happened on my Nvidia/AMD card I replaced for this crap GPU".

Rant ends :D

Well done OP for doing the logical thing and posting his question in a calm rational manner rather than the usual "this card suck and so does the vendor".

I reinstall windows once every 4 - 6 weeks, just to keep things running smooth, takes 10 minutes with an SSD. I have 2 ssd's and 1 just has windows on, i never lose any files like steam. Always fixes my problems.

I had a friend that used to do that, not as often as you, but at least once every 3 months. Nice guy but he was completely ignorant around windows.

Not saying that you are too, after all I know nothing about you. And Its often easier to image over the top of a troublesome install than to spend hours troubleshooting. Especially with older operating systems. I question the necessity of a monthly format / reinstall as a maintenance routine though. But to each their own, as long as you're happy...

This friend of mine used to insist on reinstalling when his temp folders and IE cache filled up, it just always struck me as wasted effort.

Did you guys do a reinstall over the top or do a complete fresh install? The idea of having to reinstall and setup my development environment sends cold shivers down my spine :-(

When I move around just with WASD the game is smooth but when I move the mouse around the game is very choppy especially if I focus on one point close to me like a enemy and use strafe to move around it. I have noticed this issue with most games however if I play cs 1.6 I don't get this same issue. It's as if when I move my mouse the graphics almost skip a step it's hard to describe in words and I tried to do a video however i'm limited to a iPhone that'll record at a low fps. I thought maybe this is a mouse issue I changed mouse and it has only started happening since I upgraded to my GTX 680.

Funny you mention the mouse, I had the same issue with my setup a while back. Really choppy doing mouse look. Turned out to be my gaming surface (the big boogie XL thing). Once I started using my Razer eXactMat again, it was back to smooth as butter. Was convinced for a little bit though that it was card/drivers/running processes!
