Christian Values

Hey all.

Thought I'd be a bit provocative in GD...

Disclaimer: I am not religious at all. I also live in a London borough.

I went through school being quite a disruptive, annoying idiot but went to a CofE secondary and 24 years later I'm starting to wonder where some of those values I was "indoctrinated" with have gone. I'm not saying they're absolutely correct, but my school days were basically complemented by what you would call Christian values.

I was brought up to:

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
"Love thy neighbour"
"Thou shalt not steal"
and all the other prime directives, serve the public trust etc.

I've always lived in a very multicultural, mixed area with no problems whatsoever, however in the past few years I've seen my neighbourhood disentegrate into a free-for-all cesspit where no-one has any regard for anyone else whatsoever. It's got to the point where I'm actively planning to escape and it actually makes me quite sad.

Some of this is accounted by an influx of people from foreign cultures, granted, but I'm even seeing this amongst those I grew up with now. My question is, where have we gone wrong? No-one seems to give a toss anymore and people are dumping sofas, random crap and whatever they like on the pavement. No-one cares about noise nuisance late at night and there is blatant disregard for the police when it comes to drug-dealing on the street. Even the "Natives" are becoming feral and basically are in need of euthanasia IMO because they are all horrible, selfish human beings.

Should we regress and embrace more traditional values to rebuild social cohesion or is that hopeless now? I'm beginning to think we've gone down a path of every man for himself and we're pretty much screwed socially.

If I'm not talking crap, who do we blame and how do we fix it? I personally think other people are becoming more horrible rather than me being more intolerant but hey... :)

That is the end of my beer-fuelled post. Thank you :)

Is euthanasia a Christian value they indoctrinated on you at school?

I'm struggling - I'm not saying all people are bad but I'm seeing more and more people that are only good as far as they are compelled to by society.

That has always been the case. The lack of strong community ties and interaction with neighbours means that people are no longer compelled to behave anywhere near as much as they were 50 years ago.

Multiracial society can work fine, but multicultural society will be a massive headache unless the cultures have a very similar outlook, which of course some don't. If people don't have the same set of values in their head then it's very hard for them to reciprocate what you see as basic courtesy and social norms.

As I have said in other threads I don't really understand why people want multiculturalism it just dilutes society and makes for a less cohesive places to live. Welcome all identities and you end up with an anything goes society.

The word ur all looking for is "manners".
As my gran used to say "manners cost nothing".
IMO kids are badly behaved because discipline isn't enforced.

Agreed. Not enforced at home or at school in many cases.

My nephew is a gobby little **** and there was a scene a few years ago where I took issue with how he spoke to my mum/his gran. He didn’t like that a shouted at him. He really didn’t like it when I told him that my dad (who my nephew adored) would have lamped him one for talking to his wife with such disrespect.

The lack of a shared cultural outlook is affecting this and many other European countries that have been recklessly liberal. The loss of Christian values is just a local symptom of the same problem. Society has improved in so many ways in the last 50-100-200 years but sadly that has often been accompanied by other losses of things we value. We do need to be careful that we don't lose that which make us ourselves and replace it with a thin meaningless melange made of innumerable choices of least resistance.

If you need thought thought of eternal damnation and being ripped apart constantly and burning in Hell to stop you doing bad things and the thought of being rewarded in the afterlife to be nice, then you are a bottom of the lowest order.

Christian values my rear end! Never met a more judgemental bunch of people in my life.

City people vs country people, you'll never know how constructed and indoctrinated you city people actually are, I actually feel a bit sorry for you having to put up with so much garbage.

Why do people think of these are Christian values? Isn't it just called not being a ****?

****'s come in all colours, shapes, sizes and religions..

Because Christianity came well before civilised society and "not being a ****" isn't human nature, it's something that has to be taught.

People will do 'bad' things if they know they can get away with it. It's just now instead of fearing the wrath of God they look around for a physical CCTV system.
