Chromecast now available in the UK!

Picked mine up this morning. It comes with a long USB cable, but my USB and HDMI ports on my TV (and surely 90% of everyone elses) are within an inch of each other, grr wires  It appears to be a micro-USB connector so I'll see if my short BB cable works.

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to the following...

Can this be used with a stand alone wireless hotspot (Huawei Mobile WiFi unit) or does it require a proper home network (network router)?

Might pop on of these in the back of my Xbone, might work quite nicely with the passthrough and all that jazz.

Picked myself up a nexus 7 yesterday, so it will be fun to fiddle with.

Anyone know if it's possible to connect the Chromecast directly to your phone, if you set your phone's wifi hotspot on? Or must both the Chromecast and phone both be connecting to a different wifi? Would be great to be able to use it somewhere with no wifi network, such as in a caravan.

Picked one up at lunch from PC World.
So far Im impressed. YouTube is stutter free and so is GMusic.
Very easy to setup and when it is your away casting.

I'm using All Cast to send local media and it is working great with no issues.

So far so good.

Now if only i could find a way to stream content on PC to it.......any ideas?

You can play local files in chrome browser, install the chromecast add on, type the address of the file in chrome and hit the cast button.

i.e. off my homeserver i type \\server\tvshow\showname

Just a pain as most of my files are old avi's so need to convert most of them to mp4/mkv.

hope this helps.
