My GF is freeing up some money due to a property purchase, and has tasked me with getting her a crossfire since she started banging on about how lovely they are, and since looking at how cheap they seem to be.

No point to the thread really other than for saying OMG how cheap are they!

7 grand, on autotrader. I dread to think how much these fetch trade!

How bad are these things to only cost this, what is she letting herself (and indirectly, myself) in for? :p

I like the look of them, a lot of car for the money - a big 3.2 V6 should sound nice too.

They are actually reasonably fast reading into it;

To match the looks there is also the performance: 0-62mph takes just 6.5sec, courtesy of the Mercedes-Benz-sourced 3.2 litre V6 engine, and the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph

I thought these were cheap because they were fairly hopeless cars? The old SLK was NOT known for its driving ability, hence a coupe based on one is a bit.. well...

I thought these were meant to be crap?

For someone who has his head screwed on (both about cars and spending money well), I'd have thought you'd have been dead against these.

I certainly wouldn't let anyone I know buy one, if only for the fact that I'd want people I know to have some taste/style ;)

How do they compare with an RX8?

I imagine RX8 is more expensive in terms of running costs... but a better drive and better car?

It doesnt really matter how it compares with other things, girls will be girls, she likes it, it fits her reduced budget, therefore she wants one and nothing else is as good in her eyes. And on the value for money thing i cant argue, its a modern (looking) sports car nearly as new as her 987 for 7 grand.

To be honest though i think i may try and convince her to get another (older) boxster. I think she would go for that.

I quite like them, don't know why. In reality, it's going to be driven on the road, slowly, by a woman no less :p . So it doesn't need to get a good time around the top gear track or have amazing performance/handling capabilities.

My thoughts exactly and why i am happy to get her one if she wants one. Good car or not i don't really care, a car is hardly for life anyway is it? If we buy it and 2 weeks later she changes her mind i will sell it.

Still going to swing the boxster idea through though, its similar to what she has now and still comes with a proper keyfob :p
