Cinema Paradiso disc rental price increases

Little bump for those interested. They’ve just raised it again AND cut the three-at-a-time option. So you can only do two now at £30/mo.

I've thought about it a few times but just buy anything decent. I bought a lot of discs used before and after CV19 for peanuts. Blu-ray upscales very well on a UB820 and if it's something I really want I buy the 4K. Plenty of deals around if you look. I rarely buy on release unless it's a classic. Lots of old films coming to 4K now, some of the restorations are fantastic.

 glad I worked through my rental list as quickly as I did and cancelled!

Like others have been saying, its cheaper now a days to just buy the originals. Rip them to your library and keep backups in the loft out of the way

For that price - might as well buy a couple of discs a month!

What’s more is you can buy a new release 4k movie on disc for £25 each month to own or 2 new release blurays for about £15 each. That increase and drop in discs is madness, anyone who thinks that still ok is mugging themselves off big time.
CP have priced themselves out, there is only so far a disc rental market can raise prices, you are now better off supporting your high street shops like HMV.

Agreed. I make an effort to go into the local HMV and buy 4K/Blu-ray discs, use it or lose it ;) There are always deals to be had. I'm close to 400 which takes up less space than you'd think, a very small bookcase. I also use the CLZ Movies app, makes tracking things much easier.

I understand why some don't get physical media, but I do enjoy buying new films, and on an OLED with 5.1 audio, I really have no need to go to the cinema.

I’m more digital now, get them from iTunes when on offer, yesterday got Monkey Man (4k) for £3.99. I do get physical occasionally from HMV.

I’ve done the same for some but the quality is so poor in comparison to full bit rate discs. I’m sure there’s a gap in the market for a high quality / high bitrate streaming. (The Sony service looks good but is limited) :(

Sony is good but as you say very limited. The big thing you notice is the audio. Dolby vision and Atmos on the discs is very good.

I find PQ more or less same, if their are differences it’s marginal, audio I agree full fat atmos on a disc is better.

Well, there is Kaleidescape, who offer full HD audio and better than disc video bitrates for some titles - if you have deep pockets.

Actually, the cost of films doesn’t seem to be too unreasonable and they do run offers and rentals, plus a way to use your physical disc collection to access cheaper digital versions from their store (sort of).

The main barrier is the cost of hardware, even though they’ve released a new ‘budget’ version of their Strato player earlier this year.

Their website lists availability for the marine market too, which should give you an idea of the segment / pricing they’re targeting. Unless you have a Yacht in Monaco, you’re likely to be horrified by the price of their full 96tb system…

The only thing that was annoying, CEX charge delivery on every single disc, even if it comes from the same store.
Seems a bit cheeky! Will be more careful in the future. Kinda thought they might be coming from separate stores.
