Cities: Skylines

my most recent save game which was the one where things were actually coming together and working well from back in may last year has been lost.

I have three save games present on this new install from the cloud but for some reason the one i want is missing, typical!

Those that loved SimCity 3000 and 4, what's going to this like?

Is it very different?

Its different in that its very large scale, but its a city builder at its heart, its just had a expansion released but not sure how much it changes it.

There is very good mod support both for game changing mods and also assets like buildings, road emplacements etc

I love SC4, this is better imo.

The new day/night cycle is a nice touch. The level of mods and custom assets keep me entertained for a long while.

Cheers all, I'll give it a go. See if I can't get a cheap steam key, even though it is currently 50% off on steam anyway.

I loved 3000, especially the music ha. Does Cities have just as large a learning curve?

Most of the things still remain from SC4, the 440 spaces and the grid methods.

Steam/Reddit /r/citiesskylines has loads of info, guides and tips & tricks etc to make your life as a new major easier.

Well worth it, get it via steam at 50% off, if you don't like it after 2h, claim a refund!

I was dubious when it came out, spend almost 200h in the game now. Just keeps pulling me back.

Spent about 4 hours on this last night, I go the after dark expansion and the game is fantastic! so friggin hard though when you get a lot of population, and damn traffic is hard to be effective.

Got to about 9k pop and they started getting sick on their own **** as it was flowing back into their homes, I didn't fix it in time and started going into debt, then electricity stopped working not enough power lol. Got a bailout and I managed to do it the same thing again!

It's addictive though but you learn each time you play it, will start another city tonight :)

Lost count of the amount of times I've restarted! Currently building my best city so far though. I've been taking it slow and building progressively. For the first time I've actually got buses and a metro system working well. Usually I get annoyed at buses :D Having the mod that auto-colours the lines and allows you to only have one line highlighted at a time is definitely helpful when making bus routes. You need one or both of these:

Here's a picture I took of my double bridge setup, doesn't really show the city much, but thought it was pretty cool. I've built on both sides of the river, trying to keep residential and commercial on one side and the industry on the other.

That mod looks great I'll try that out!

Picture looks cool, that's a good idea having industry one side helps with the population getting less poluted.

What do you do with your districts? I mark each zone and rename it so if my residential is all one area I mark that and change the name to residential, and same for commerce and industrial, instead of having names such as "meadow hills" etc.. helps with the policies and taxing as well.

Any other tips would be much appreciated!

This is how my zones are currently laid out.

I haven't really bothered looking at doing any specialization for each zone yet, just got the basics enabled, recycling and futuristic housing I think.

Currently planning to develop the area where the industry is into offices so I can lose all of the 'yellow' industry blocks and all the pollution it brings. My University and high density housing are located on the right near the sea.

Once that's done, I'll have a look at the zone specializations and see what's what.

Your city looks good so far, I like the fact it's either side of the river. I just need to work out placing things properly and getting the hang of it in that sense, it's not an easy game! I've never played these sort of games before though so that doesn't help, never played Sim City either.

I like that City Vitals panel that is a good mod definitely need to get that.

Yeah the Vitals panel is awesome, you easily see when you can adjust budgets to save money, and when you need to increase it.
