City Fibre

Good news for me my town is one of 2 places in the country to be trialing gigafast - my 1gb/1gb goes in on the 22nd March :D

They even facilitated my multiple fixed ip's :) Been with my ISP for nearly 18 years so time to finally move!

Great I guess!

What do people need those sort of speeds for though?

The real shame as I see it is that I was getting lower pings than that God knows how many years ago ( pings are important to gamers. speed is not. ).

I guess though that cloud storage becomes a really good option at those speeds though.

@PzR Slim how much are they charging you? My street is currently being cabled but it's not available yet, just wondering how it stacks up against Virgin
£40 a month. It was about 10 weeks from being cabled that it went live. If you sign up on the City Fibre website they will send an email as soon as it goes live. Was two weeks from ordering to having the install done.

Guys do city fibre supply direct to businesses or are they usually through a reseller only?

We're working things through to get connected to city fibre through a company called NGC in wakefield but wondering if theres a more direct route or another reseller possibly?

Any help/info is much appreciated.

CityFibre aren't an ISP, so in the same way you can't buy an internet connection from Openreach, you can't buy one from CityFibre.

Giganet are an ISP that use CityFibre, Zen do as well but I'm not sure if they offer business services over it.

Totally understand this, thats why we went through NGC.

Just did some digging and we found a more local company called Amvia that can supply city fibre lease line to our premises.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Trust pilot reviews seem good...

They seem to be a reseller rather than an operator of their own network, so they're just reselling. Whether they hand over the details of the actual provider at some point so you can get support, or if they manage all the support calls themselves isn't clear.

Just got off the phone to Amvia, they do all the support as well. Really need to see the terms of the contract though, words are just words unless its written down in black and white.

Iv been doing tests and looks like my 500m line is not full duplex 500 speed. When doing simultaneous upload and download i got speed of 540ish down and 50ish up. Looks like download is given priority.
