City Fibre

so far so good, no drop outs since it went active on the 3rd of march. supposed to be dynamic ip however my ip has been the same for the last 7 days, will keep an eye on it to see how often it changes for my needs if it holds the same ip for 1 weeks thats good enough for me.
customer service: well iv done 1 web chat with them to find out why my bill is 10 quid more for the first month and googling around also gave same answer as the webchat did in its to do with when the billing period starts which is not at the same time as when the service goes live so it has a out of thingy charges, but was assured future bills will be the 35 quid a month i signed up for (no info on that 4.5% inflation thing thats going round). other than that no need to interact with customer services yet same as with virgin, once its up and running you dont need to deal with anyone. with virgin if there was outage you go into myvirgin online and do checks from there usually if there was a outage its affecting the area and virgin resolved it fairly quick.

reliability wise pic shows its been up since the day it was put in 7 days ago and no resets or reboots. the vox3 gui is so quick compared to the virgin hub3 its unbelievable. heavy torrenting done hitting 64megabytes per second and cpu usage in router was like 10%.
latency is so good compared to virgin too.
overall im very happy with it. the upload speed is what i mainly wanted 500mbit download is overkill for most households anyways.

Its been a while for this thread and minees due to complete in a few months, i wondered if any of you guys can let me know how its been over this period of time and what your seeing speeds wise ect?

Thanks in advance!

Constant 930Mbit+, 2-3ms to majority of London based hosts for me. Packet loss and drops are unheard of.

If anything I'd recommend going for 500/500 or less unless you really need the speed.
I myself will probably be looking to downgrade at the end of my contract :)

Thanks for the reply,

500/500 for me is £37.50 and 1000/1000 is £45 so not really a huge difference monthly but a good saving over 18 months.

having 23/5 atm makes me want 18 months of 1000/1000 but i understand what your saying when 500/500 is good enough.

Thanks again for letting me know

Yeah, they're honestly always changing the pricing, so it all depends on the price difference at the time of buying, but if it's anything massive it's really not worth it as it won't save you much time between the two.
Unless you're constantly downloading/uploading large files, then I can see how it'd be beneficial. Otherwise it's just a fancy number on a speedtest really. It is just one of those nice to have's :D

Whereabouts are you located? Thats insane

They doing the roads around me so hoping early 2022 the latest.

However I have some concerns.

Firstly cityfibre seem to have a funny policy for renters, my property on the checker tells me the build is been planned but also says the service wont be available until they get permission from the landlord, seems very odd, never needed it for sky, virgin media, BT etc. Dont know if FTTP has a stricter law or cityfibre are just been awkward. I did get permission verbally, but suspect it wont be enough.

Also on 11th November Vodafone announced a new deal with Cityfibre, they are now the anchor partner. Coincidentally the same day it has been reported that Zen now only allow it to be ordered over the phone and have increased the price by £8. I am hoping at it least stays available on Zen by the time I can order. But seems I will now be forced to pay more for it compared to existing customers, never like it when a ISP doesnt charge everyone the same for the same service, a reason I am currently with A&A.

Given that FTTP could require digging up the garden path or garden itself they will need permission.

Depends if they need to do external work i.e dig anything up to run the cable or drill a new hook to the property, I got CityFibre installed 2 weeks ago and had to sign a waver for them to do the external work even with it coming off the pole as it was a new cable and required it's own hook drilled into the property.

Zen got back to me to confirm they will still be supporting cityfibre.

Yeah now I will just be waiting for it to become available, do the order, then when I get the form pass it on to my landlord, hopefully there will be no stubbornness on it.

I can hear the roadworks from here, its coming soon, but I am guessing realistically will be winter/spring 2022.

It took 8 months for it to go live here for me from the first day they started digging road / path up.

Well before I asked on here I had emailed the landlord team at cityfibre, and they replied earlier saying they going to sort out the wayleave for me if they can by contacting my landlord. Otherwise they said the process is as I was told in here, get the wayleave signed when ordering, but hopefully cityfibre sort it out, the guy who replied is actually visiting my city tomorrow as well to inspect the area.

Hope mine aint taking 8 months! They only started digging at the start of the month!

3 months after they finished digging mine went live.
They complete a larger area then take it all live rather than just postcode by postcode.

I suggest manually checking if you're eager to order rather than using the email notification they provide as it came very late for me.
They eventually posted letters 1-2 months after it went live to notify the rest of the folk that may not be so up to date with such matters lol
