Civilisation IV

Very strange. I was typing a message as the turn was changing, as soon as it was completed every civ war decced me, or I war decced them automaticly. Think it must have been a bug or something because I did not want to do that :).

Anyway I gave all my stuff to Fothsn, but put in to become his vassel as well, expecting my war decs to mirror his, well they didnt and everyone war decced him as well. Theres probably some sort of terms as to weather the war decs go onto the master but I didnt think they would.

Ahh well, good game while it lasted, up for another some time.

Well I've been playing vanilla Civ IV for past few days and it hasn't gripped me like any of the others yet. Just feels like there's almost too much to do and too many options? Every five secs I've researched a new tech and new buildings and units are available... has an 'everythings obsolete before I've even used it' kind of feel to it.

Might give beyond the sword a spin.

Heh, Ive had the same experience with Civ IV.

It seems as soon as Ive updated my military to the latest stuff, I get a bunch of new tech which outdates it.

I also find myself wanting to build every single world wonder every game, I just cant help myself.

bought CivIV complete from a high street retailer this week (£12.99) thoroughly loving it so far, takes me right back to my playstation1 and civII, absolutely fantastic. i haven't even started on the expansions yet so i'm sure theres plenty of fun left to be had :)

You guys should slow down the speed of the game. Epic speed seems like a better option to me, more time to acctually use units and to wage war.

Yes I always use epic myself, normal is too fast and quick is terrible imo, epic allows for more micromanagement too...

You'll find yourself often ahead in tech than in units though, the trick is to use them in a war asap while they're good, also beginners seem to make way too little military in my experience and don't focus enough on production but too much on gold/commerce/research. And also don't prioritize research but pick techs at random, just research good techs and get all the less important through trade.

Hey mate, awesome game session last night! :D

Brilliant game is Civ IV and the Beyond the Sword pack is the icing on the cake for a brilliant game series :)

Will look into that... can it be changed in game or do I need to restart?

I just started it with original settings thinking it'd be ok but it's way too fast and arcadey for my liking.

One thing I will say, it's a big leap in the looks department compared to Civ III when everything is turned to max detail @ 1920x1080 :)

Hi all,

I used to love playing Age of Empires 1 & 2 and I think it was Caesar 3.

Seeing as Civ 4 is a bargain on Steam - am I likely to enjoy it based on the above? Really tempted to go for it as it's a bargain on Steam at the mo.

I got bought Civ IV for christamas last year i think and never played it, i feel like ive missed out, is it really that good

you might be able to change it in world builder but it's probably best to start again. it also depends on the level you play at, tech choice and trading becomes much more important the higher up you go, as do your choice of wonders. it's such a big game that it's difficult to sum up some good strategies in a short post!

this website really helped me when i started http://forums.civfanatics.com/

Going to have to do some reading up me thinks... Feels funny being a n00b again as I know Civ I, II & III like the back of my hand!
