Civilization V

What about if the helicopter was low and hovering , then it wouldnt be high and fast moving :p

it would certainly be an unconventional strategy for a chopper :p

I'm just too used to RTS/ gal civ style TBS, where bringing a tank (or heavily armoured /more advanced ship) requires a change in tactics/specialised unit to counter rather than just "throw more riflemen at it".

Well you are more than welcome to play me at Civ5 then if you are just going to throw more men at it, I could use some easy wins :D

Who said the spearmen were pre-20th Century and who said that the game was restricted to the same timeline as earth in regards to the required time for purification of Titanium? :D I've built stuff in Civ games way before earths timeline for the same thing

(I guess in essence I am saying its a game, not a historically and scientifically accurate interactive documentary :p)

Well obviously the real timeline is a rough guide (always fun having space age weapons by the real industrial revolution) but Spears would clearly not be a realistic use of Titanium. Not when you could make said titanium into say... the tip of a Ballista Bolt which most certainly WOULD go through a helicopter even if it is primative technology :D

Maybe the Spearmen have a system which fires the spear faster than a Ballista, after all it doesnt say anywhere that the Spearmen throw the spears by human arms :p

WHYYYY ARE PEOPLE ARGUING ABOUT WHETHER A SPEAR CAN KILL A HELICOPTER!!

Sit back and THINK ... Spear ... vs. HELICOPTER? An Apache could kill you from 2 miles away... can you throw a spear 2 miles?

Just shhh!! Gameplay > Realism.

How are you going to throw them that high and that accurately at a fast moving target?

In order for a catapult or a spearman to take down a helicopter, it would have to be severely damageid in the first place, like all the way down to its last hit point.

If its been that battered and bruised, then its probably going to be killable with a giant rock shot, or with a lucky spear.

an apache could kill you from 2 miles away but would it be able to find you from 2 miles away without the use of spotters?

What about if the Helicopter was on the ground, I bet spearmen could get it then (you didnt after all specify that the helicopter was airbourne :p )

Couldnt throw the spear 2 miles, but nobody said it had to be thrown, maybe it could be fired, some kind of big speargun thing, like a harpoon only bigger :D

I could think of quite a few ways in which a "spearman" (being unclearly defined) could down a helicopter (being unclearly defined).

Of course if we are talking a wooden spear , thrown only by the arm of a single man, against an airbourne helicopter moving at speed...well thats a different kettle of fish, not sure we're given that specific a set of parameters though. :D

Maybe the spearman simply hits the helicopter pilot? No need to bring down the whole thing. In the same way a Hoplite could sink a Battleship if he snuck aboard, stabbed the helmsman and then barricaded himself in the room whilst it ran aground onto rocks (assuming the Great Lighthouse wonder hadnt been built yet of course otherwise they would see them..).

Didn't I see a Stevan Seagal movie with an eerily similar plot where a single ex soldier captures a Battleship? Ha, proves my point, I win :D
