Civilization V

Any good advice for winning a Deity difficulty game?

Deity!? I have almost completed my first game on Prince difficulty playing as Japan and its hard enough. This game is so much more satisfying on the harder difficulties so im gradually working up the levels. Not ready for deity though so can't help you!

What map size do people prefer best? I like 4 players, games are too long otherwise. Civ 5 is awesome.

I go for months without touching Civ V then when I finally do decide to fire up a game I binge on it for hours and hours. You really have to think about what you are doing and plan ahead. Its totally different to other strategy games and takes the best bits from the previous Civ versions, in my opinion. I really liked Civ IV but there was too much content, way too many unit types and it was difficult to pick back up a game if you had left it a couple days. Plus i never got the hang of religion or diplomacy.

Keep an eye on Steam sales, occasionally they drop the price from £30 to £5 then put it back up again.

Yeah it's one of those games that you need to invest some time in to get the most out of. It's been months since i played and if I went back to one of my old saves... I wouldn't have a clue what was cracking off.

That's just boring, slowing down the game in all aspects is no fun.

Waiting 40 turns for a Crosbowman is boring as hell.

Science needs to be slowed down to that extent while the rest isn't.
That's how I feel anyway.

Must admit I've felt like this as well. Back in Civ 2 and Alpha Centauri it never felt like all you were doing was pressing enter in rapid succession. Epic speed with normal production would make the game do much more fun.

I'm looking forward to the Religion, I loved that aspect of Civ4 and sounds like they've done some cool things with it this time round - Wanna go start some holy wars :P

Not sure on espionage though. I never really used it before, I must've been missing something. Hopefully it'll be easy enough to learn.

Have to say I winced when I saw the price :S May wait for it to go down like I did with Civ4 lol

I have a rather simple noobish question despite playing this game since release. How on earth do these research agreements work? You pay 250g and then what? Doesn't seem anything happens so I avoid them when the AI comes asking. Does it actually have a significant impact on your research?

Oh, can't wait for the expansion :D

The research agreements are over powered and almost spoil the game. Yes they give a huge boost to your science, especially if you build the Wonder - Porcelain Tower and take the Social Policy to boost them by a further 100%

They take 45 turns to come to fruition. If you make several deals with different civs you can easily jump through 3-5 techs in a single turn.

Did they not change that in a patch? I haven't played in quite a while now but I seem to remember some patch nerfing research pacts in some way, like it was no longer simply a free tech or you couldn't spam research agreements.
