Civilization V

Folks, will the expansion include all the DLCs etc that were released? Wished they would put them all in one almight expansion so I dont have to buy them all individually...

Some of them, Spain, Inca and the Mongolians will be included, Korea and Babylon wont be. I think it was that was as I have been stung with civ3 and 4 expansions and wanted to know...

When Gods and Kings is out I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sale on the DLC anyway

Did they not change that in a patch? I haven't played in quite a while now but I seem to remember some patch nerfing research pacts in some way, like it was no longer simply a free tech or you couldn't spam research agreements.

It's still over powered if you forget about it, if one civ has too much money they tend to gift to every friendly civ and then automatically spend it on a research agreement (there's no I need this money to prop up my economy option). I think the wonder that boosts it has been curtailed a bit though

I know I'm in the minority but I got really frustrated with this game. How can archers kill a tank? If I manage to get ahead in technology surely I should have an advantage? Its my only complaint with the game, it was really addictive part from this.

That's been the principle criticism of EVERY civ game in existence... :p

5 is the first one where the strength of units goes up a lot more per "age" cutting out incidents of it more and more (plus the tank can't really be invincible as that would kill the game a bit). Back in 2 there were a few coefficients that dictated the results of battles so a phlanx could beat a tank quite regularly (and attack a battle ship).

Had a go at this after about a year of not playing it. Was fun :)

Alexander was proper jammy and got a continent to himself while there as 4 of us on another. We're all battling it out and hes just amassing some super army of giant death laserbots.

Will have to whip out those nuclear subs, if theres one thing thats funny in this game its nuking cities.

I haven't touched this in ages - it just hasn't grabbed me like Civ4 did. Things like Zones of Control and no unit stacking really frustrated me and felt like a step backward. Is the new expansion promising a more challenging AI?

Pre ordered too !

Cant wait to see the glorious words "Judaism founded in London" again.

Ive recently started playing again after buying all the DLC for 99p or whatever and had a couple of good games.

Hoping this expansion perks up the AI again and makes some of the Civs worth using.

Personally the stacks of doom are what ruined Civ for me, they just removed any kind of thought or tactics to warfare.

The dumb AI problem wasn't a new one with Civ5, it's just the removal of the stacking highlighted how much more thought is required with single units. This left the AI horribly exposed but the patches seem to have done a lot to change this for the better. Though it's still far from perfect.

I agree, I can understand why they did it, but not being able to stack more than one unit is just as annoying - I would have preferred a sensible limit. It becomes a serious pain trying to move large armies.

same, a limit per tile would have made more sense. Wars in Civ5 are so much more of a pain than they was in Civ3 or 4. Civ3 i used to love wars

Nice to see they've finally added a retire/replay option. Shame I spoilt the map I'm currently playing on when I chose to watch a quick replay. Exploration is kinda pointless now. :(:D I think I'll hang fire on the expansion and see what you guys make of it.

As for 1UPT, well it has always been a marmite thing. I have to say I like it, the inevitable stacks of doom always wrecked my previous CIV games. Possibly this was down to my style of play as much as anything else.

I have pre-ordered this from Steam and I will be looking forward to playing it once released. No doubt I will be as equally incompetent in using the new features that the expansion pack introduces as I have been up to now when I play Civ V.
The only thing that I do not like to think about, when people mention that the AI of Civ V is less than that of a pigeon, is that it does not say much of my own playing skills.!

i used to think that but now im used to it and really prefer it.

I remember in civ 4 sitting there watching 70+pikemen and musketmen attack one of my 12 Mech Infantry fortified cities. It just gets incredibly stupid.

Only thing i do not like is all units embarking ability - They should have kept transport ships and to some extent airports.
