Clinically obese, trapped in an obese man's body.

While what you say is both very true and extremely effective I think, particularly for your first steps on weight loss. The motivation to hit the Gym regularly is not there.

I would think, Particularly in this case where I believe the OP is particularly over weight. Exercise in a Gym may be both difficult to sustain and also possibly embarrassing? (depends on the individual ofc)

Yep, sorry, didn't even think about that, it does completely depend on how big the OP is and how comfortable they are working out in front of others. But if you go to a good gym, everyone in there should be supportive, because at least you're trying to do something about it and not letting it get worse.

You'll get lots of oh so clever replies here telling you that it's simple and all you have to do is eat less calories than you burn off in exercise. Duh. The reality is that it's not that simple otherwise everyone would lose weight easily. My advice would be to see a GP, who will be able to help you much more effectively than an internet forum.

Stop talking bull. It is exactly that easy. I was over 20 stone and a 42" trouser 2 years ago, I'm now 32/34" and just undEer 15 stone...see my signature.

Exercise is by far the most important part. Find something you enjoy and want to succeed at, and as a byproduct you will strive to become fitter. This makes the diet a lot easier to control. For me that was basketball, and the thought of someone burning me in a game and not wanting that to happen anymore was enough to make me put down the chocolate bar I had just picked up.

The most important thing is exercise.

No its not. Visit sports arena for better advice.

If you find yourself often eating you could eat 4 healthy meals a day and be fine (you'll easily start shedding the pounds if you just eat healthy with a high body mass) you'll feel fuller a lot quicker/longer with good food.

It's easy if you want to, most people would just like to lose weight but not enough to not eat the stuff they're craving.

But once you've made that decision you're right, it's easy, there's no skill to it, just look at the back of the packet. I'd disagree exercise was the most important though, it's actually not important at all (your exercise increases your calorie requirement so you could have a defecit eating the same but equally you could eat less and get the same defecit).

 This is a serious illness and shouldn't be made light off.

It's not an illness, it's a self inflicted serious health condition.

The longer you leave it the harder it's going to get. You need to plan out a diet and a workout routine and religiously stick to it for 6-12 months.

I'd agree with that to an extent, but only if weight loss is the only goal. Exercise has the added benefit of strengthening your body (including cardiovascular system), which I think is often overlooked by people trying to lose weight. Thin != healthy.

I can't. It's like an illness. I think I will be dead by 40 at this rate. I just can't stop, I have nothing in my life apart from work and food.

You have to be in the right frame of mind to loose weight, and really want it for yourself. From past experience I could lose weight, give up and pile it all back on again.

I am back on track now and more motivated than I have ever felt. I am on the Cambridge plan at the minute and can't wait to see the results :).

X plan / y plan are a disaster IMHO. Being overweight is because of a mixture of being sedentary and eating badly and fixing that needs a total lifestyle change. Whatever you do you need to be able to maintain that for potentially the rest of your life. When you come off a plan what do you do then ?. Where is the foundation of your change, I can't see how people won't revert to their original diet.

Im not looking for a quick fix. Yes you ten to lose weight drastically on this plan but once the weight is off and I have reached my target there will be no going back to old habits. It will give me the boast I need and help me to follow a new healthy life style.

It's hard for me to look at it any other way than 'if you want to lose weight, stop eating your own weight in pizza'.

We all already know how to lose weight, we just have to do it.

I love the people in this thread telling an obese man to do pushups/situps...

Cut out all the crap, eat healthy, buy an exercise bike. Do 30 mins on it everyday, hey presto, weight loss

That mean putting the fork down and getting up from the sofa though.

Ever wonder why the weight loss industry is a billion dollar industry?

Hint in my first sentence.

A question I'd like to know the answer too myself. I wouldn't say I eat junk food to excess, but I've always seemed to gain weight very easily.

I guess its all down to plenty of exercise and a healthier diet.

This exactly.

I dont see why it is so hard. For me I exercise hard during the week then weekend comes and I can sometimes put on 1/2 a stone. It will be dropped in the week though as I usually train 4 times mid week

No you don't. That's completely impossible.

He's probably talking about water weight which, at a very long stretch, might be possible. Very very long stretch. That's why people who tend to go on diets lose weight quite quick the first week or two, before the grind starts. It's just water weight.

If you were training hard 4 times a week I can't imagine your body retaining anything over the weekend? Even if your diet went to absolute ****. And what a waste of time battering the gym if that's what you're doing. Better to graze all week and keep up with the gym than binge.

38inch waste here but feel like a 42!

im 6"4 though so jeans make me feel fatter the thighs width in jeans dont seem to scale very well with leg length

wont help anything if he person doesnt have the right mindset.

they will just feel like they can eat more because they are using more energy

I'm 6ft ish but I'm wide anyway, even when I was 12-13stone I was 34 waist.
