Clio Cup's

Because when I'm doing an emergency stop, the main thing going through my mind is whether i'm in full control of the braking system...Are you in full control when you're sliding down the road with your wheels locked?

if you were in full control of the braking system then you would not be sliding down the road with your wheels locked up, i'm not quite sure I understand what you are getting at here?

The point is, I don't believe for a second that anyone in this thread is a good enough driver to brake as well as ABS will allow by just standing on the brakes. I also don't believe most would avoid locking up in a true emergency stop situation.

common misconception is that ABS stops your car quicker, it doesn't. However if you're a bit of a spaz that likes to thrust their left foot through the floor I guess it will stop you locking...

If you are a real driving enthusiast and you like to be in full control of your car then no, they are not a good idea. If you disagree with me then why not phone up lotus and ask them a couple of questions about it.

My Elise has ABS and servo assisted brakes. I think all Elises and Exiges since about 2004 have done.

My saxo doesn't have ABS. I have only locked up once but it's 72bhp down on the 172 cup.

I have yet to see evidence of a 172 cup slowing down as fast as a full fat.

Hence I do not understand Renault's logic. Going on about how safe their cars are and that.

Quoted for truth.

Genuine emergency stops aren't fun. I've only had to do them twice. Once in my Chevette; overtaking on a dual carriageway, coming past an E36 318 which was tailgating a Megane. The Megane had a blow-out, the BMW dove into 'my' lane, slammed the anchors on and I had to do the same. The other time was in my mum's old Golf, doing 40mph through a blind left hand bend on an NSL road and came across someone coming the opposite way, half on my side of the road. Had to brake and mount the verge on the inside, the nobber in the 'other' lane took the wing mirror off the Golf.

Fun.

So if you have more control braking in a non ABS car, how are us newer drivers meant to know how to stop correctly? Most learner cars have ABS, mine doesn't.

My instructor just said stamp on the brake basically.

my girlfriend wants one of these because she like clio sports but doesn't want half leather, I am a bit wary Because I thought they didn't have abs, is it right as mentioned earlier some had as an option?

It's not for girls:p

She should have the Full Fat version haha:D

Only joking, it's standard on the FF version. I do believe it was an extra on the cup. Doubt you will find many with it though.

Isnt the whole point of ABS to allow you to steer under heavy braking? Its not the end of the world if you dont have it, I dont think I have ever used it!

So losing steering under heavy braking isn't an issue??

No, because generally the only times you "should" be going fast enough for this to be an issue is on a track, and you shouldn't be braking mid corner anyway.

Brake before the corner, IE when the road is still straight ;)

she likes the blue colour of the cups and is vegetarian, so doesn't want leather.... I'm not arguing cos to me it will be more fun to drive, but i'd rather it had abs
