Clutch gone in car, garage charging £700 !

are you quoting main dealer rates for the £700 price ?

if so this is normal. As you can see from above, you can get it done for half the price (as the labour is half the cost) at an independant garage.

You can't just put a block price on something like a clutch change.
I could do the Manta on the drive, probably take just over an hour if I really went for it - helped change the clutch in a Safrane once though and that was about 9 hours all told. Pig of a job.

Sounds a lot though, you'd not pay much more than that at an independent to change the clutch (parts and labour) on my M5, and that would include them having to mess about dropping the stupidly heavy one-peice exhaust.

the l200 we have in work just whent through a clutch at 16k from new so it really depends on how its been driven / type of driving etc

Unless its one of these stupid recent vauxhalls which cost iro £500, you are getting MARJORLY stung - tell them to bog off.

My dad just paid £700 for a clutch on his x type jag. 20k on the clock and this is his 3rd clutch!!. He is 75 and wont be told how to drive correct.

Jebus, to get that kind of wear he must be driving with his foot on the clutch.
