COD: Black Ops III

Im new to pc gaming and hearing about all these crap ports im wondering if ive wasted my money building one. May as well just stuck with my ps4
Most ports are just fine. People greatly exaggerate the lousy quality of PC ports, usually naming a select few over and over to make their point, ignoring all the others that are good or at least decent enough.

Also keep in mind PC gamers have higher standards. Even 'bad' ports often still give you a better experience than on consoles.

And I hear that the PS4 and XB1 versions are suffering from poor performance and a few game-breaking bugs. So yea, dont always think things are going to be rosier on the other side. More often than not, if a game on PC is having troubles, its console counterparts are, too.

So......after an hour played of the campaign. Mixed impressions.

First off, performance. I turned off DSR as the game seems to startup at your highest available resolution in the menu, making things slow to a crawl for many people. So yea, if you're getting a giant image or everything has become non responsive in the menu - back out and turn off DSR, or ALT+ENTER until you get to full screen so you can go to the options and change it.

My PC:

MSI GTX970 w/stock overclock
i5-3570k @ 4.2Ghz
8GB 1600Mhz RAM
Windows 10

These are my settings:

This gives me a pretty solid 60fps. Going up on texture quality to the highest setting gives me stuttering - guessing it's a vRAM hog, which sucks. Texture quality isn't even that good.

Quick tip - if you find your image looks a bit too washed out, switch the Display Gamma setting to HDTV. This is the difference:

Looks much better to me.

Overall graphics in the first level haven't impressed me that much.

Big issue for me is sound, though. The mix is dreadful and makes the game feel very lifeless. Guns are too soft and footsteps and reloads are comparatively loud, making it all sound very weird. I'm using headphones and I switched to the Crunch audio preset, which helps some, but not enough.

Also, mouse controls dont feel great. I've gotten used to it, but it definitely feels a bit laggy. Hopefully this gets fixed quickly as I dont want that for multiplayer at all.

And generally, the first level just wasn't very fun. Generic shooty shooty bang bang stuff. The dialogue for the characters was weird and paced awkwardly at times.

Good potential here, but some issues need ironing out and obviously I haven't tried multiplayer yet, which is where everything hopefully comes together. Dont care too much about the campaign.

Even though GMG stated their copy of BO3 never came with nuketown, when I activated my key this morning it had nuketown dlc?

Had a play through the first mission at midnight, will likely beast through the campaign this weekend, play a bit of MP, then start playing Fallout 4 on the 10th.

Glad I trusted my instincts! Back to Quake Live.

I haven't seen anyone saying the multiplayer sucks yet?

I buy the CODs every year but the last two sucked probably an hour game time between them (don't have even dedis). But had over 100 hours BO2 not including zombies and similar game time for BO1.

As others have mentioned this COD had dedis, decent multiplayer (normally best of the CODs multiplayer), zombies and coop campaign.

If I initially have to tweak some settings till it's patched I don't care as long as the above is fun!

Every year its the same performance issues, every year they fix it 2 months later, every year its the same MP, every year its so expensive, every year its just the same old crap and every year people keep on sucking it up time and time again :)

Back to Dirty Bomb :)

Started the game up again and had trouble getting to the menus. During the online check, the framerate dropped to like 0.2fps it took forever before telling me online wasn't available. Then I got to the menu and hit 'Go Online' and it worked fine. Seems like something they can fix pretty easily but it was annoying as it took like a full minute.

Anyways, finally did a few rounds of multiplayer. Good stuff. Performance is a flawless 60fps and I must say, I dont know if its just the art direction or what, but it looks a lot better than what I've seen of the campaign so far. Very pretty environments.

Gameplay is great, too. Haven't played CoD online in a long time and this is the first time playing one on PC and I was kinda awful, but the actual combat felt great. Very smooth, nice weight to the movement, the jumping and sliding feels great, guns(so far) seem nice to shoot. Definitely feeling pretty good about the game now.

Oh yea, my very first round:

So bad. lol

Also bought from CD Keys, Downloaded yesterday....from 9am until 7pm dl @ ~900kbps, 7pm-11pm 200kbps.
Went to bed at midnight with a reported 4 hours left.
Had finished downloading through the night.

I bought a controller for this as used to playing on xbox 360.
Going to try kb/mouse first though after trying the pad with CS:GO last night and concluding that a pad is pretty useless for that game.

I hope it runs Zombies ok, don't really care for the rest.

Excited though that they are going to release the mod tools for custom next year.

I am unbelievably bad at this for some reason. I'm averaging about 0.3 k/d over like 8 games. Haven't once gotten above 0.5. I've never been this bad in a competitive shooter before.

for those that might be having issues. try this.

"There have been reports of certain i5 CPUs having performance issues causing very low frame rates - We are still working on the final solution for this issue, but we have had reports that changing WorkerThreads = 4 to WorkerThreads = 2 in your config.ini file can help (In the game folder, commonly located here, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops III\players\config.ini).

We have also noticed that some systems may get better input response with FPS Cap set just below refresh rate. If you have a 60hz monitor, you can try enabling Vsync and setting your FPS Cap to 58"
