Colleague sacked for being Racist

I wouldn't get to caught up debating if a word is racist or not. Words change overtime. If the guy has felt so bad he's had to make a complaint, it's because he probably feels threatened, bullied or discriminated against because of his race. The fact that the bloke whos been sacked carried on after numerous verbal and written warnings shows what kind of person he is.

Every considered jelousy? The other guy was recently promoted IIRC.

I will guarantee that the person sacked is white and the person complaining black or asian. Now, if it was the other way around and the black/asian person was making the remarks, would the end result be the same? I suspect not. :(

Do we know if the comment was made in jest or not, does the complainer? The guy apologised for previous racism and yet still made a racist comment from what I understand of this so he can't blame anyone other than himself.

Nothing "PC" about this either, it's a company following the law of the land and if they didn't they'd be in big trouble, along with the PR nightmare they'd face.

How do the company know he carried on making the comments though, you said they knew originally as he apologised via e-mail.

Because my colleague complained about it again. He apologised by e-mail to my colleague trying to explain his actions.

Which one? The one that was sacked or the one that made the complain?

I think hes talking about the one who made the complaint. Hmmm racism is a hard thing to prove but if this idiot was warned to stop making those comments then he hasnt a leg to stand on.

Like a few people have said its all about the context, a couple of the guys here that work for me....when we talk to each other we do call each other pakis' etc etc but its in a joke type manner...nothing like...you stupid uneducated ****..go back home where u belong etc etc. But i agree this country is far too PC but then it seems like the world we live in is becoming more and more PC day by day:(.

I'm not suggesting it's not his fault, i'm just trying to explain why he may have done it again. I guess the only person who can answer that is the guy himself.

Yeah fair enough I see what you mean, but I wouldn't think he could get fired over a siple mistake...but anyway we can't tell if we don't know what he said.

Yeah but that's mostly from your own country/race, I mean I don't like calling my housemates my ****** even though they call me like that, I mean if I was a black dude and some white guy came up to me like he's from the wu tang, I'd be thinking, what's this idiot been smoking.

Only because we bend over backwards to appease the ethnic minorities.

Dont be silly, how the hell do you know that for sure???. Ive worked for companies where asians/blacks were sacked for making stupid comments towards their own kind and white people. Hell in my first job i had to complain abotu a black guy who was being quite stupid towards me, made a few racist comments and like this story i put up with it then in the end decided not to. It works both ways, granted we dont live in an ideal world but if a company panders to the ethnic minorities too much then i dont feel thats right.

But then perhaps white people are a bit more tolerant when it comes to things of this nature...i dont know....but thats a silly comment to make without any proof.

LOL true, hate it when white guys think they are black or black guys who think they are white :p. But yeh mostly me and my mates will call each other a silly pakis etc etc but like i said its the context its said in. Tbh i couldnt and dont really care if a white person called me a **** and told me to go home, to me it just shows how ignorant and stupid they are to make such a comment. But then thats me, other people wont stand for it and will probably go and knock the said person out:p.

Also, people can be racist against their own race...

I remember a black person who was sacked for calling another black person a "coconut" i.e. black on the outside, white on the inside...

"joking" is not something that will wash these days

his only chance would be to say that the words had legitimate meaning and were not offensive

for example ( difficult to explain without use of words ) P*** is short for Pakistani and could possibly be argued , N***** is a very awkward one as a a lot of younger black people refer to themselves or each other by it but it usually deemed offensive if used by a white person

Whay are you assuming that this is a white person speaking to a non white............

And there was me thinking that we are all just people.
Your statement effectively stereotypes white people and black people. It is in effect racist.

Ahhhh i was waiting for you to turn up, glad to see i wasnt disappointed..:p

Yes quite right you are, ill be honest and say that there have been times where ive been quite racist on my fellow pakistani people. Some of them really **** me off bigtime with their utter stupidity, usually its the banana boat type that get me going lol. But ive been called a coconut by some of my asian mates but as i said before its in a joke type manner ie taking the mick etc.

Because that's the way this country percieves racism. It can only ever be a white person being racist </sarcasm>
