Colonoscopy

Did anyone watch the first episode of that reality medical show called Stuck?
That woman who got her toy stuck in her... too funny why would you allow yourself to be filmed having that?

I won't link but add facebook.com infront of this.

I've only had one, I chose initially not have the injection and instead breathe the gas because I wanted to watch the camera, it was fine until around half way through when it started feeling like somebody was literally poking a big stick inside me so I had to ask for the injection, after that I don't remember anything apart from being wheeled out to recover on the ward. Moviprep side of things was fine apart from the disgusting taste & texture

I think some people confuse a sigmoidoscopy to a colonoscopy. A sigmoid i can tolerate a full colonoscopy can be pretty horrendous. It depends on what they are going in for though. Having Ulcerative colitis and during a flare up was pretty painful without sedation. (twilight)
I've a full Colonoscopy due as its been 7 years since being diagnosed and they want to do a full check again.....

Indeed.

An Endoscopy however..

Doc: 'yep, all you need to do is swallow the tube'.
Me: 'but it's 20 foot long'
Doc: 'Twaaaaah just swallow it please sir'

I had a Colon CT scan fairly recently which was similar prep, slightly odd lying on a table with a tube hanging out of your rear.

One thing I will say is make sure you take any sedation they’re offering, sadly I wasn’t offered any I can’t imagine a lengthier procedure without it.

Thing is, i dont want to stay in hosp afterwards for 4 hrs...

I have elected for gas and air...

See how it goes...

I've had two. One with general anaesthetic, one with local. I highly recommend the general.

Prep is the worst.

Eh? You definitely don't need general anesthetic, they tend to offer sedation if you want it and you might well dose off during that but there is no need to have a general anesthetic for a colonoscopy.

If it's just the colonoscopy then it's fine, I had one during lockdown so I didn't really want to have anyone come and collect me given hospitals were hotbeds of covid infections etc.. (you have to have someone collect you with the sedation, it's not just the longer wait) so I opted to go without.

It was fine, super quick procedure, doesn't matter if you're fully conscious vs drowsy, at one point I hadn't taken many breaths of the laughing gas and it was still fine, only a slight bit of pain towards the end.

I'd not advise it if they have to look down your throat too though, you'll probably want some sedation for that as it's quite uncomfortable - you also have some mild pain relief spray for that where they numb your throat a bit.

One thing that got me was they changed the instructions on the laxatives/bowel prep stuff, I wish I'd just followed the printed instructions not the handwritten notes the nurse or someone had added to the packet giving me different times to take them, by the time I got the hopsital in the morning I needed to go again... was still unleashing a nasty mess in the hospital toilets at the last minute before the scope...

But then in the actual room, as I was fully conscious, the guy was complimenting me on my bowel prep! You have very clear bowels there Mr Dowie. Could watch the whole thing on the monitor. :D

I hope i can get to see the procedure.

I have had the camera down the throat years ago. Didnt have sedation. It was horrible! Lol
