Colonoscopy

I couldn't have one without sedation, although most of my colonoscopies were during ulcerative colitis flares so the pain wasn't really representative of a 'normal' colon.

I actually find the hardest part the bit between the prep flushing me out and the actual procedure starting. I used to get really lightheaded and weak going 16 hours with no food whilst completely 'empty' inside.

Yes, found the whole thing easy. I had plenvu prep and thought it tasted alright, it was passion mango flavoured, I made sure it was cold, sipped through a straw and chased it with apple juice. Took about 1hr 30 mins before my arse fell out. Just don't trust a fart.

I took sedation which was Fentanyl + Midazolam, didn't feel that I had taken anything and made the whole thing feel like it took 5 minutes, I didn't remember going asleep or waking up it was like being teleported. Was wide awake and felt no sideffects from sedation, and was ready to leave once I found myself in the waiting room, I was only there 30mins after. Didn't fart much at all after, took about 4 hours when I needed to go to the toilet when slightly bloody water came out

Sorry to hear that, that is rather unusual, did they perforate his bowel or something? :(

I think so. Because he had other problems they didnt realise it at the time. But then he died in hospital and had an investigation and that was the result. My uncle was considering suing the hospital.

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy last year, my first colonoscopy but not endoscopy and in the past have a sedative which is so good you do not remember having the camera down the throat unfortunately the sedative is short lived and I came to as the doctor was interfering with my buttocks it was not painful just a little unpleasant.
So if offered the sedative take it and you will not even realise you have been violated until it is all over.:cry:

The worst part is you need to take Moviprep litres of the stuff, make sure you are close to the toilet and bar the rest of the family using it as this stuff is wicked and will certainty flush you out and then some.:cry:

Had Colonoscopy earlier.

Worst bit was the air they pump into you. I found it quite painful.

I opted for gas and air which i felt did nowt.

I watched the procedure on the big monitor.

They found 3 polyps. 2 tiny and one a bit bigger. They removed them all.

Taken ages for wind to come out of my tummy! Sharp pains but all gone now, 4 hrs after procedure.

Def an experience i dont want to go through again!

Looks like my large colon is healthy....

If there's a test, I've probably had it lol. Sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy (removed 3x adenomas - 2x with the hot snare and 1x with cold biopsy, and took further biopsies), endoscopy with five biopsies, cystoscopy (that one's like a sigmoidoscopy, but up the front - and yes you're awake...), EMG muscle test, you name it.

I need colonoscopies every 10 years now for surveillance, to make sure the adenomas/polyps/anything else doesn't grow back. I had light sedation for the colonoscopy. It was mildly uncomfortable when they pumped in the air and when they turned to go across at the top (someone above said the same), but it wasn't actually outright painful and I wouldn't worry about having another. It's one of the 'easy' procedures I've had in the scheme of things. It just feels weird with brief uncomfortable/briefly slightly painful bits. Think 'Ooh! Oh, it's gone already' rather than 'ARGH!'. I had inflammation and other issues at the time, so I'm sure yours won't even be that 'bad' OP. Really, don't worry. If I had to choose between a colonoscopy every week, and one of the other above procedures, I'd skip to the colonoscopy clinic with a smile on my face (ooh er). They're that 'easy'.

The prep is a nuisance, and 2L of fluid was hard to take (especially when I hated the flavour/texture). They don't use Movicol type stuff anymore, here at least. They use something else, I forget exactly but it was akin to an 'overdose' of Vitamin C or similar that prompts you to need a liquid poo every hour for 3-4 hours, then nothing. Then your next drink, the same again, and you're done. Not 'that' bad, just awkward and... well, inconvenient...

The air when they go across is literally the worse bit.

Sadly I've had that three times now :D

Good to hear all seems well

Last day or so i have been getting bad bladder pain! Will monitor it. Not sure if related to the colonoscopy.

If you get Midazolam and Fentanyl you may or may not remember much. Lots of interpatient variability in the amnesia midazolam provides. Some remember nothing, some remember everything.
