Command and Conquer 4

RA3 finished the series off for most as its absolutely terrible in every possible way. Even the FMV sucked more than usual in a so bad its unwatchable way :(

With the exception of Red Alert 2, you can see where the problem started. Command and Conquer for me ended at Renegade, although I wouldn't really class Renegade as a C&C game. This new C&C4 game looks okay, but no resource gathering or/and base building kills it for me... kinda like what Relic did with Dawn of War 2.

Why are pretty much all RTS games ditching base building ???

It's one of the best bits of a good RTS, and developers just seem to have decided that no one wants it anymore

I wouldn't be suprised if it was due to consoles. Tried playing a C&C game with base building on a pad? It's a bit nails :P It is disappointing though as you are correct in what you say.

You are probably right about the console thing. If anything, i would like even more base building in games. It's like building your own fort :D

because they dumming them down so consoles can play them

base building takes me back to the days of pharaoh and caesar.....

Oh how fun they were..... C&C without base building isn't C&C

Let's face it, CNC has been dying a slow and painful death for sometime. No wonder they are looking to mix things up a bit.

I think Generals was a good game, but it has/has a huge memory leak on some of the maps and was left unpatched in an inproperly working state for the first 3 months of its release.

I remember the forums being shut down and people being banned due to the sheer weight of complaints and EA trying to manage them.

This was the last straw with me and EA whose games I always make a point of avoiding if they have any major part in.

As for C&C well that trailer showed me how undeveloped the series is.
The are blatantly copying from SupCom and Starcraft in an attempt to gain some of the crowd who will be buying into them

Things I noticed
1) The map was tiny
2) No zoom of any kind
3) No obvious strategies except upgrade units from cadavors and group together (surely this would make OP units that will snowball in multiplayer)

Same undeveloped formula with a few leached ideas from other good games.
Same basic engine with a few graphical tweaks
All this for the same price as a brand new engine at £30 + another £20 for the rubbish that is bundled in an expansion that was probably already developed with the original game and yeah they will claim it was well supported with only say one patch when its using the C&C3 engine, so duh

Command and Conquer - Fantastic game, but brain-crushingly hard.
C&C: Red Alert - Absolutely spot on, puts the rest of the series to shame.
C&C: Tiberian Sun - Very good, not as good as the two before but certainly a lot of fun.
C&C: Red Alert 2 - Very good as well.
C&C: Generals - Things started to go downhill here. Generals was a decent game, but not a patch on what came before.
C&C3: Tiberium Wars - Very "meh". Nothing exceptionally bad about it, but nothing exceptionally good either.
C&C: Red Alert 3 - Awful, awful game, for the reasons stated by Britboy. Also, all strategy went out the window when they made the whole "amphibious bases". What's the point, seriously?

The new one looks like the final nail in the coffin. Having no proper base building killed Dawn of War for me, now EA are ****ing C&C over in the same way?!? :(

I loved red alert, played that game for so many hours looking back most likely too many hours lol. It was so amazing at the time. After that i followed the series up to generals which i thought was a decent enough game but didnt have that extra special thing RA had. Ra2 + addon were very disappointing lost interest in the franchise along time ago. ;/

I agree it wasn't great but I believe it sold pretty well so as far as they're concerned it was probably a success.

I'll give this one a go but don't hold out too much hope.

Loved C&C 1 as i was addicted since the demo, probably played the demo more than the whole game tho... It was probably my first game i got properly addicted to... RA was great and i played RA2 and Generals to death, but mostly just Multiplayer...

Hadn't really heard anything of the series since and it really saddens me to read all your reviews as i was really hoping for another on the horizon! :(

Really looking for an RTS of old c&c style to 'fill in the gap' before Starcraft2, any suggestions?

What's that song called?

Incidently I bought the RA2 soundtrack on itunes the other day because I had credit to use up, lol. Hell March 2 ***.

I believe it's just called Mechanical Man! The original Hell March was awesome, never played the 2nd RA, so no idea what the 2nd version sounds like!
