Comments On Console Games & Hardware's State

I drift in and out of posting in here but i do read the threads every day (well the ones that are interesting :p) and it's been clear for a long time that the section has deteriorated a fair bit. General bickering, fanboyism etc etc. It all makes for a less enjoyable place to post to be honest.

I don't think the Don's have bothered themselves with this section for a while now. I have reported stuff before and nothing was ever done. As a test, i even done an Old Skool Zefan and reported abnormally large Sigs and no, nothing. The members still have them. C'est la vie i guess!

This particular part of the forum needs someone who is always active within the section to be a Don and for me, that should be Nokkon ;)

I always find the guys in pc gaming very helpful, its a good forum, theres less bickering i think as we all have a common interest.

Perhaps its time to split console gaming in the subsection, or at least have a filter option.

Agreed.

One thing i like more about PC gaming forum is that there isnt the prediliction to always be posting about the "next new game" and that is the main topic for that couple of days.

Its more diverse, has a deeper history and variety of games to call on and theres less antagonistic bickering i thought. Problem with a subforum which is shared by 2 competing gaming systems is each is constantly seeking to reinforce its status.

e.g. one person says "GTA IV is great on PS3" you undoubtably get someone saying "its even better on the 360"

Its classic oneupmanship to the bitter end.

Its the nature of this dual-centred subforum beastie.

Is there this kind of antagonism in the graphics card section? (nvidia vs ati)

Everyone should RTM this thread and in the message box jus type 'Make ****** mod' in my case the ****** would be Nokkon.

We need to do something as this place is getting out of hand, and we're going to keep losing a lot of the valued posters the longer this place is left unmodded.

Also i don't find Thestig1 to be that much of a fanboy :o

Always used to be when I browsed there regularly and I can't see it changing much.

Personally I think the only real solutions are: self moderation for those mature enough to be able to take a few seconds to think before clicking post reply (except they're probably not the real problem in the first place anyhow) and a don that can metaphorically smack the immature ones round the head when they don't grow up.
The first one might happen for a little while, can't see the second suggestion happening though despite it being a really good idea.

Either way, it'll probably even out again soon enough, usually does.

It's quietened down a bit actually, people have just generally accepted that the best cards are shifting between nVidia and ATI constantly. This release is ATI, next release is nVidia etc... You get the odd few of course, but nowhere near what we used to put up with.

It took it a while for the AMD vs Intel wars to stop, but Intel got their crown back and that died down - I'm not sure whether people are anti AMD now though, I don't think so.

That makes a change :D Used to be terrible when I was more into upgrading. As per usual I was rubbish at being a fanboy though, I had AMD, Intel, ATI, nVidia, Playstation, Nintendo, Microsoft, Apple.......no brand loyalty me. :p

I've no idea who's best between ATi and Nvidia now :o

I think its ATI currently, as nikebee said it keeps changing from release to release. I remember browsing those forums was a bit of a pain when I was planning my new rig.

Hehe, same here :o

I've had the whole lot... Loads of brands of mobos, AMD/Intel, ATI/nVidia, Sony/MS/Nintendo/SEGA (etc)... I'd be taking the pee out of myself if I favoured one over the other :p

It's ATI at the mo, they're cheaper and in places faster than their nVidia counterparts.

Actually... thinking about it... I've never own anything by Apple. Can I start the Anti-Apple Crew... or is there already one I can join?

I want a Mac Mini though, so I guess that goes out of the window :o

It's certainly ATi. I'm the proud owner of a 4870, which is one of the best performing cards out there (and THE best one at certain resolutions and anti-aliasing settings, bar the 4870x2) and extremely cheap. Nvidia was punched in the balls, metaphorically speaking. About time we had serious competition in the graphics sector again. A monopoly with the 8800 was bad for all. High prices and lax attitudes to performance and driver maintenance.

Sorry for thread derail :p

PC Gaming forum isn't that bad?

I don't visit it as much as this one though, and when I do it's only a few of the same threads to be honest. So maybe I'm not the one to comment.

imo they are quick to pounce on new users to the PC forum, or any established member who is new in the PC forum

The trouble isn't so much the baiting in threads, it's the way everyone and his dog just has to respond to it, because they lack any sense of humour. A pinch of salt, or just plain ignoring it, would do wonders for this place.

Take that "ps3 vs 360 vs wii" thread, or whatever it was called, last week. It wasn't actually derailed by 'fanboys', it was spammed to death by people going "What have you done!?! :p" or "oh god not again " or "THREAD. CAN. WORMS. ETC." or something equally inane and non-constructive.

Either people let the fighting go, or I vote we just give up and go for an OcUK version of YCS.

Buy my ageing 8800GT for £180 please, it's faster than a 4870, honest. ;)

and in the PC forum it's "GTA IV sucks on consoles, blurry, laggy mess of a game"

Not exactly a lie though. :p

Also, the PC forum is usually a talk about games, Nokkon, not fps or configs. Heck the only game that gets discussed really for the framerate and configs would be Crysis and that game sucks sock anyway.
