Commonwealth Games 2014

Why were you expecting it to be ****? Call me biased (you shouldn't though as I'm English by birth) but it is one of the best cities in the UK. Largest city in Scotland and 3rd largest in the UK, ranked as one of the Top 10 European financial centers and the "Second city of the British Empire" in the Victorian/Edwardian times. Still ranked as the #1 shopping destination in the UK outside of London as well I believe.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited Glasgow earlier this Summer. It's relatively cheap for a big city, there's plenty of arts, cultural on top of all the shopping and variety of cuisine. Best 'In Britain' holiday I've had in awhile.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Commonwealth Games, but the BBC's commentary team was DIRE! Seriously, if they've got nothing good to say about other countries, then shut it. One very good example was the Mens Syncro diving, only 4 Nations (English, Malaysian, Canadian and Australian)

And guess what happened? Casual racism on the Malaysian team, as they took their time to prep (as they are allowed). Making out that 'they're waiting for a Takeaway'...?

Glad my licence fee is paying for that.

Enjoyed the athletics on Saturday night but how come there didn't seem be a camera on the back straight for the relays? Was like watching matchstick men running at times.

You could say pretty much the same for Birmingham - that a city is big, economically important, and has a shopping centre doesn't necessarily make it a nice place to visit.

Glasgow doesn't have the best public image (I'm sure it is/was the most violent city in the UK) and I'd never been, so I expected it to be a bit **** compared to the only Scottish city I'm familiar with - Edinburgh. I was pleasantly surprised.
