Community Fibre

might even be bt fibre, as they were doing a lot of work in the street last month, then recently some pavement got dug up and cables coming out the ground into a utility pool. Now have a huge roll of cable hanging on the pole currrenly.

Yeah. I had a roll of wire hanging also once the ground work was finished. Now they have actually come and hooked it all up nicely to a black box.

What you need to keep an eye for is once that roll of wire is no longer there or should I say nicely going up the utility poll connecting to something. That is when you will know not long left :)

Just edited my post above, I think it might be bt fibre. I’ll take a closer look when I go for my morning walk tomorrow:D

That's all what I was doing. When taking the dogs out for a walk I would be checking the utility polls out

The ones that had the roll of wire did not have Community Fibre yet. Once that did not had it already.

Was just driving by and saw another local utility poll that also had a roll of wire hanging no longer has it and it is all neatly done up.

I wonder if it will go online this week? I mean as far as I know nothing else physically left to do. Other roads near me have had it for a while so should hopefully be a case of flipping a switch :D

In my case it was roughly a couple of weeks. Does sound like it should go live for you soon hopefully.

@beachBOYken I did notice they tied the black box to the pole initially at around head height, and then around a week after they then properly mounted it at the top, with the roll of cable neatly going into it. So if you see a random black box tied somewhere, it should be a few weeks away (hopefully).

Yeah there is some smallish black box with connectors at about head height and roll of cable, I’ve not seen any community fibre here though, unless I
missed them working.

A few months back I saw loads of BT vans down my street though.

Mine has been put right to the top. Was done in two goes. They came on Thursday and did something but the box was not up. Then again on Friday and this time everything was done nicely and the box was up. I am guessing 1-2 weeks. Happy with that! :D

Mine didn't have any box on the cables. Just cables. Hopefully you will have it in a few months time. Are you in a 18 month contract with virgin?

Yep, but to be honest I’m quite fine staying with Virgin for the time being we have the 500mb service now and pay a cheaper price than we were paying, and vm broadband has been very stable around here to be fair.

You will 99.9% have Community Fibre ready by then.

Yeah hopefully a few options at least, in the mean time I hope you get your cf service soon, and it will good to hear how you find it once you have had it for a while, do you game online at all?

I have a Xbox/ps5 but don’t game online as much.

Sometimes, but not often. Only one right now is Street Fighter 6. I can't see that being an issue however. We will soon see I guess.

We have a similar service. We never use to have FTTC or FTTP. We struggled daily with 16 down, and 1 up. We had a local company rip up all the roads around are area, and cause absolute chaos, but in return 90% of my area have FTTP now, and we pay 32/month for 600 down, and 900 up. Upload speed isn't capped. So I assume the company is sort of offering similar to the one that came to me locally.

150 is more than adequate for Gaming. It's possible on 50, but large games will just take a while to download.

Is there anyway to opt out of cgnat?

Or pay a little extra for a static IP?

Yes. Get the 3GB line which costs £49 :p

They really should offer a dedicated IP for £5 a month or something for those that need it.

I personally would rather pay the new price of £25 a month and be on CGNAT as it will make no difference for me and probably 90% of people.

3gb, lol. Who actually needs that, sure it’s fast for downloading, but 500mb - 1gb is fast enough to download large files, on my old 350mb line I used to download large games over Wi-Fi in around 1hr. Must be aimed at the super impatient, lol.
