Community Fibre

Not me, no; Mine was asked to be run further in from the get go, and thus was already in place where I wanted it to be.

But I'd like to ask if there a reason why you can't or don't want to just keep the termination point where it is, keep the Modem hooked up there (neatly and tidily, out of the way) and then run a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable (something that can take more harsher bends and turns) into the Utility Room to connect to whatever you have (or intend to have there) as required instead?

Since the ONT externally is powered by battery outside, and the inside is only reliant on your Modem to connect to it and keep the connection live before you connect it to the utility room. And it's unlikely to need frequent reboots or anything like that anyway either.

Neither the ONT nor Modem as far as I can tell makes a sound, so should be fine for a Bedroom, especially if tucked away so none of the indicator LEDs on the modem blink/flash to disturb the occupant.
Or just run it underneath floorboards if you can

Yep. Easy peasy for you right now I would imagine :D

I got lucky not needing to do that by just following the copper pipes up. Upstairs we only need wired in the office so no need to bother with the bedrooms. But if we ever renovate/change carpets I will do it just incase.

Aye, that's a cleaner alternative too. :) But not an option for everyone (I know mine isn't such an option unfortunately :().

Well, when you put it like that - makes sense. Cheers :).

Yeah, if you think about it, whether you move the Modem to the Utility Room or not (through extension), the main connectivity point is still in that room. This means whether it's due to Privacy of being rented out or it's one of your kids, you'll need to go in anyway if something is amiss and it's not based on the Internal network side, so you might as well just keep the Modem there, and just use Ethernet to connect up (under floor, ceiling, surface mounted, along skirting board, etc) and tidy it up in the room and have an easier time with ethernet connection between the two points instead.

And if you do go with a fibre line (armoured) instead to extend it, besides the breakage possibility (and cost), you'll need to remember that if you don't have under floor options available, whilst the fibre line is thin (something like 1-2mm thick), the (per-terminated) terminals at the end of each side of the cable you use to connect to the ONT and Modem is not 1-2mm thick, but much larger; equivalent to a ethernet cable in size (Cat5e at the very least). So in that situation, fibre or ethernet is basically not much by savings if you need to drill through some walls (which will always need to be at least the same size as ethernet cable, unless if you have the equipment to splice the fibre stuff yourself - which apparently costs a pretty penny).

So it all comes down to really leaving it in place (assuming there's no issue doing so). If there is an issue, contact Community Fibre and have it moved by them (into the Hallway for example) and ask them to have a fibre line available (usually in 10m lengths pre-made) and then route it from the Hallway through to your Utility Room. But this might cost you if it's not your first time installation with them or your contract did not start as a zero installation cost (apparently those that did start with that, don't have future engineer reinstallation costs, but don't quote me on that as I've not tried that out myself, just what the engineers told us, so that might have changed since then.).

Got 1 gig installed this morning, £25/m and 6 months free.

Router is great and I've upgraded from BT FTTC, latency and speeds are a lot better. I get 1ms to 8.8.8.8!

Very good indeed.

Was you waiting for it to become available like me? If so do you recall when the black box on the utility poll was connected?

I think around January-February. It was available to buy a little after but I waited a little since I already had a contract with BT.

Quick question - I currently have BT Full Fibre Broadband, but am contemplating a move to Community Fibre when the contract runs out at the end of the year.

Can Community Fibre reuse the existing wire / ONT box or will new wire / additional box be needed? It would be great if the existing can be used.

Ah, I feared that might be the case. Probably worth keeping the BT cabling + box in place then, just in case I want to move back at some point.
I was on BT fibre before and can confirm that they used a different cable + ONT. Also worth considering that due to wiring differences the ONT might be put in a completely different part of the property. Also worth considering that they may use different entry points compared to BT. For me BT entered via walkway at front of flat whilst community fibre wasn't.

Unless there's a dud connection issue with CF (which you'll know in the first week if not first day), I doubt you'll be moving back to BT any time soon. BT identical download speed packages are asymetrical, so you only get like 300mb/s up, rather tha 920mb/s up on the 1gb/s package. Assuming you never upload anything, you're still constrained by the fact that BT currently doesn't compete on price to CF.

But, I will agree having options is good. Just, you're unlikely to go back. Not until BT gets their stuff in order.

Good shout, I hadn't considered that. BT's entry point was always be a bit restrictive, having to route cable throughout part of the house. Hoping the CF route might be more accommodating!

When I first installed fibre we had loads of disconnection issues, which took BT around 3 weeks to sort out. To be fair to them, it's been rock solid since. It seems with fibre that as long as everything is working to begin with then you're probably set.

I wouldn't be looking to move as the connection has been reliable, but I'm currently paying £49.99/m for 500MB with BT, which would get me 3GB with CF!

Oh those prices are great, my mistake I had it in my mind they were like half price for the first contract.

That's good. Putting the pressure on the other ISPs too be competitive.
