Community Fibre

I wonder if BT are keeping an eye on these CF prices and will be trying to offer steeper discounts to keep customers. I can't imagine any BT custromer staying if a service like CF is up and running in their area...

They don't need to - their network is 10x the size of Community Fibre's and they aren't allowed to set different prices depending on local competition. Openreach compete with Virgin Media, when (if) VM go symmetric then Openreach will.

Yeah. Bit like Virgin. They could have kept me for another 18 months but they just could not offer the same deal even with their crappier network.

Ultimately it isn't sustainable to offer gigabit FTTP for £25 a month with a free installation, I would expect the Community Fibre prices to creep higher.

I helped my sister get Hyperoptic into their house and it involved three visits and digging in the pavement, the final installation was two people for probably five hours between them. Even at £35 a month there is a lot of months to go before that's profitable.

They are just getting as many people to join first I guess. Long term plan. I am sure with all the freshly laid cable they will be able to offer even higher speeds for more moneys down the line.

I will be surprised if my installation takes more than an hour with two guys. Will be get the wire on the pole onto the house which is not that far, then drill a hole. Job done. Might even be 30 minutes. I don’t need them explaining things to me. Just make sure the line works. Already messed about and know how the router works too at a family members house :)

If they can figure out a way to partner in a meaningful way to offer premium sports TV (Sky, TNT) then that removes a big reason why people end up with Sky/Virgin Media - those providers will almost give away the broadband part as long as you're paying for TV. More stuff moving to streaming services helps out people like Community Fibre but live sport is still a huge market, and if you're paying for live sport you don't want your goals on a 30 second delay.

Do you have the ONT already installed?

Dude. I know that. The white box is the router. I even said I tested on at a family members house.

Not sure what that has to do with the ONT or my reply.
My bad I'm getting confused with my BT one which is a white ONT BOX. Which is essentially. a modem.

My original question was do you already have this installed. Cos of not it'll take more than 30 mins...

Let's make this clearer. What community fibre equipment do you already have installed at your property.

And do you even have a firm date for the cable pull yet?

Haha. I see the confusion. My understanding is the ONT is the Adtran which is black :)

If you look at my reply I said:

Two 19 years old did the installation in about an hour at a families place as I recall. It really is not that complicated.

Fair enough. Yeah it not complicated, though my fibre was spliced and fused when Openreach did it. This takes a bit of time.

And exterior was done first. Followed by another guy on another day that did the interior.

That's why I was asking has your interior already been done and just waiting for the exterior install.

FYI anyone who's interested in getting community fibre when it becomes available in your area don't jump on it straight away, i booked mine, then the very next day a guy came round offering 3 months for free. I didn't really want to cancel and re-sign - which he suggested I do because i was going away on holiday and just wanted it sorted, but £75 is £75 (for 1 gig)

You should have just asked for a referral here. £100 right there. I will get my family to refer me. £200 for me then :D

Anyone here tried setting up their own ipv6 dhcp server with the linksys router? I’d like to change the dns for ipv4 and ipv6 but on the linksys router provided it only gives you options for ipv4.

This is available where I am but still in two minds, currently on FTTC service, FTTP is also available with multiple providers and now this, mate just had it installed and over 900 up and down, not had any real feedback yet :D
