Anyone here tried setting up their own ipv6 dhcp server with the linksys router? I’d like to change the dns for ipv4 and ipv6 but on the linksys router provided it only gives you options for ipv4.
Best option is a 3rd party router. I did try setting the ipv4 DNS but that for some reason completely disables ipv6. Just decided to do it client side, could've used my old Asus router which was fine on BT FTTC's ipv6 but I've been wanting to retire that for ages.

Its the CG-NAT that's putting me off.

Maybe consider getting the cheapest line you can for anything you may need that CGNAT gets in the way. And get the 1gb line for everything else.

Anything in particular you do that you think cgnat will get in the way? You could always get it and try. They have a 60 day if not satisfied you can cancel policy I think.

Which router did you end up going for? :)

My CF has been in now for just over 3 months (500mb) and it has been solid as a rock in that time. As they use the telephone poles to get the fibre to the house I pulled out the old BT line that came into my house and told the guys to use that hole for their fibre. They were with me maybe 40 minutes in total and I was up and running ( I am using my own Edge router that was already setup ready to be plugged into, and I turned the Linksys into an AP in Bridge Mode).

The only thing I will say is if you look out of your house and look towards the telephone pole, if there is a tree in the route let CF now as they have to do extra work to run protective tubing through the tree for the fibre cable. For me the tree was in a neighbours front yard so they had to get some form of permission to "amend" the tree. Took about 2 weeks to complete that part.

Good to know regarding the trees, thanks.

As for the CG-NAT its the lack of public address and the ability to initiate a connection inbound, although this does add extra security, its swings and roundabouts I guess.

Apparently there are some VPN providers now offering a fixed addresses, could be an option, I've not looked into it in too much detail yet.

I do have experience with CG-NAT at remote location where a 5G data only sim and router are used, its fine for outbound, I thought we could get round it with setting up a VPN out but the little TPLINK router only supported VPN server mode not client mode, so pretty useless, its only temp so not to fussed.

See @kona786 it can be done and that's with a tree to deal with :D

I mean how hard can it be. One guy works on the pole and the other drills a hole. Job done.

My house ain't that far from the poll so will be easy. No tree in the way either. Yay.

I hoping it will happen sometime this month fingers crossed. Will time it if I remember.

Haha fair enough.

If CF not live in your area yet?

My mum's place is still pending FFS.

The pole is directly outside my property  . Outside job was super quick because of that. Had 3 guys in total, 1 doing outside, 2 doing inside. What took the most time was routing the fibre cable to where I want it, but overall easily less than an hour, however the outside guy and the inside team did arrive at separate times, so if it was the same time, then probably close to half an hour.

Nope. They did say by end of August to be fair. But they also sent a leaflet saying in 3 months time back in February so..

Sad things is a few roads near mine have had it for many months now. But can't be long. All the work has been done from what I can see.

Mine will be straight forward. My office is facing directly the front of the property. Inside will be less than 3 meters straight to the corner. Hence why I am guessing half an hour unless the guys they send just started working there or something.

Someone's going to get back to me tomorrow... meanwhile I have no broadband ****** *****

Use data on sim. That's what I have been doing since my virgin contract ended a couple of months ago. Yeah, not the fastest speeds, but enough for Netflix etc so it ain't that bad. Browsing speed is plenty fast.

Hi All

New to the forum and not really technically knowledgeable with internet setups etc. Looking to jump on to CF on the 1gbps package.
I live in a 3 storey house and also an out house at the bottom of the garden, how is the CF wi-fi coverage and speeds using wifi as I don’t use any devices which will plug in directly. I currently have superfast sky broadband and use a basic Tenda Nova mesh (MW6 by router and 2x MW3 around the house) to boost the wifi around the house, it works but it’s not amazing but it works! Will I be able to replicate the setup or can someone advise on the best setup in order for good coverage around the house with speeds that are noticeably better than my current setup? I’d rather not spend the additional (‘wi-fi on every room at £10 a month). Much appreciated sorry for the long post!

They will provide you with a standard router with standard WiFi capabilities. You don't have to use it, can use your own kit. If you don't want to pay them the £10 a month and want better WiFi then you have now, then you need to splash out on hardware to make it happen.

Welcome to the forum btw :)
