Community Fibre

Been on CF for just over a month now, originally on CGNAT but I requested to leave and eventually they took me off.
Now that I am no longer on the cgnat, I have to agree that my ip location is quite scarily accurate. it locates first half of my postcode.

Not mine? Mine just says London...

Does that mean I am on cgnat despite signing up back in Feb/March?

Looks like CF is going to replace the current Linksys router with a different model for their "slower" packages": https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...y-fibre-prep-new-wifi-6-broadband-router.html

However it doesn't look like much of an upgrade:

Current MX42BF-UK:

New replacement, MX56CF-UK:

Downgrading from tri-band to dual-band, 1.4GHz quad core CPU to 1GHz dual core (although might be better architecture), nine antennas to five. However it's being rated at a faster AX5400 compared to the previous AX4200. The WAN port is also now 2.5gb.

That IP lookup on my static IP (toob) is way way out, I'm not in SO14 (Southampton):D

Edit*
I'm using the MX4200 router from toob, actually don't really have any complaints with it at all and the wifi appears to reach all corners of the house (4 beds) with no problems. The dual core model with faster WiFi no doubt is better, but how much better at a distance given the fewer aerials built in?

If the ISP didn't supply the 4200, then I'd likely have just bought a TP-Link Archer, I might still do that actually as a means of future proofing and having total control though and not relying on the ISP to push out security updates and things.

Hello, is anyone here on Community Fibre using their given router, using pi-hole as well? I'm trying to set it up but I see in the router configuration that you can only set a dns server for ipv4, and not ipv6. Would this mean I would have to disable ipv6 fully on the whole router? I am trying to steer away from doing that and maybe as a last resort.

I tried as soon as I got CF, setting your own DNS does indeed disable IPv6. In the end I had to change the DNS on the client side instead.

Not a huge issue, but why do I get minor packetloss when using torrents? I'm on 500/500, Steam downloading at full speed doesn't cause it, other downloads don't cause it, torrent, minor packetloss.

Doesn't cause any issues browsing or watching youtube, but if you ping google for example, there will just be the odd lost packet. Overwatch will also complain and show the packetloss symbol. Only torrenting seems to cause it. Even slow downloads compared to the connection will do it. It's not a major issue, gaming and torrents aren't really clashing and outside of that, it's not causing any problems, but I don't get it. Steam downloading at 50MB/s, fine. Torrent plodding along at 10MB/s=minor packet loss. Upload is no where near saturated either.

Is it the router? (linksys velop)

I don't torrent as much these days but I haven't noticed any packet loss when it's running in the background. Have you tested it on other PCs? How is the PC connected to the router?

Everything is wired. It's not one system, the loss is on everything when a torrent is going.

System A torreting, system B Overwatch. Overwatch will keep flashing the packetloss symbol. Ping google on system B and there will be the odd lost packet.

Can you try torrenting on system B and see if system A starts noticing packet loss? Definitely not something I noticed, no experience with Overwatch but with other multiplayer games I don't see any when one system is torrenting. I'm also using the MX42BF-UK, most things hardwired. WiFi is off as I'm using a Unifi setup.
