Community Fibre

Looks like i may be in cgnat after all?

i checked the ip address via web browser and it starts at 85. but on my router WAN it says 100.69.2xx.1xx
Yeah, if both browser and Router WAN are same IP, then not CGNAT. If any of the IP's begins with 100, then often it is CGNAT - although usually at the router side rather than Internet side (like what you have just seen).

If you re-contracted at some point, they'll switch it on then as well by default.

I got them not to put it on last year when a new contract was taken, but I read somewhere that they won't do it now and will push you to higher packages instead. Don't know if true or if it's just the usual "depends who you speak to" situation.

Just chatting to their CS and they say CGNAT is on the 2.5Gbps package, thought it was off above 1Gbps*. Hard no for me then, shame.

*I had it on mine but was lucky and they turned it off.

Edit - might have a confused CS agent. Their FAQ says premium 2.5 doesn't have CGNAT, anything below does.

Edit - all good, going to the premium 2.5 with no CGNAT.
Just upgraded as well.

I forgot to ask them if I need a new modem.

My router should be fine as it has a 10gbit sfp port, or I will find another 2wy) way to go beyond 1gb on my current network setup.

Did they supply u with a new modem?

Does the old modem which connect to the actual fibre line on one port and on another port, connects to a router be able to push out 2.5gbits?

No new modem, just two APs/routers which I've put in the loft along with the original one they have for 1gb. AFAIK, the ONT box in the front room has a fibre cable in and I assume an RJ45 which runs back to a 2.5Gb WAN port in my UDM-SE. I'll check when I get back home.

Edit - @jonneymendoza it's the ONT box with the fibre cable, fibre from there into modem which also has an RJ45 and that goes into a wall ethernet which leads back to my network equipment.

Well I finally managed to get CGNAT disabled. Went round and round in circles with CF CS who refused to acknowledge that I previously had CGNAT disabled so I left a bad review for them. This was immediately picked up and around a week later CGNAT was disabled with no real explanation except to say when my contract ends they’ll expect me to pay to have it disabled.

Hope I can negotiate a good time when it comes to renewal?

Renewed my contract for 1GB again and as expected, I've been moved to CGNAT. However I also seemed to have lost my IPv6 address as well, and restarting the router doesn't bring it back. Anyone else on CGNAT and no IPv6?

Probably a blip in their system. When I’m moved off I didn’t get an IPv6 address for 4-5 days and eventually it appears.

When this first happened I contact CS and I was told it was either or which made no sense at all. No amount of restarting will fix, only time so no idea what the actual cause is.

Cheers. I'll drop them a message and see how they'll respond, and will keep an eye out for the next couple of days to see if it eventually does reappear.

Luckily I'm not too fussed about being on CGNAT, I moved things I used to host locally to other alternatives. And from a quick test last night at least, everything was still working.

They replied on Saturday saying they fixed the missing IPv6 issue but even after restarting everything it still was off. Now this morning (a week after the new contract started) it's finally back.

Is ipv6 an add on for community fibre or is it standard on all packages?
It should be standard. They're one of the few ISPs that actually have IPv6 support for consumers (I don't think even Virgin has rolled it out yet?). It's not necessary yet but seeing how ISPs are moving to CGNAT for IPv4 due to running out, IPv6 is more future proof since that address will still be fixed.

OK cool thanks

Anyone having any issues with CF? Internet is working, but fluctuations in speed and spikey ping. Upload seems to be fine. Just affecting download and ping.
