Teenage rapist's sentence condemned as 'not justice'

Sean Hogg was ordered to carry out 270 hours of community sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl.

270 hours of community service... and even if you think age is mitigation, which I don't then at the bottom of the article is this
Lord Lake told Hogg that if the offence was committed by an adult over 25, they would attract a sentence of four or five years.

4 or 5 years. For raping a 13 year old girl.
Court papers stated Hogg, of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, threatened the girl, seized her by the wrists and forced her to carry out a sex act before raping her.

New guidelines for sentencing under 25s were introduced in Scotland in January 2022.
They made rehabilitation rather than punishment a primary consideration, recommending an "individualistic approach" taking into account their life experiences

I'm all for rehabilitation for a lot of crimes, but not rape! You aren't going to rehab a rapist.

Same with murder.
 
Strange one, there's usually some underlining factor when people get let off the hook like this but I can't see anything from the articles I've read on this case.

He's going to have a hell of a time inside or out now everyone knows who he is.
 
wow i started off thinking this must be a case of statutory rape. which even tho 13 / 17 is a pretty big age gap but then maybe i would have seen where the defence or the judge was coming from.

but no........ it isnt even that so i am completley boggled to be honest. a disgrace.

also.... 4 years to go to trial? Jesus!.

He was 17 when he did it which presumably adds to the under-25 leniency... Still shocking though, at 17 he will have known full well what he was doing.

The base sentence of 4-5 years the judge mentioned seems very lax too though... Guess we don't know the full facts of the case, but still...

The fact it took 4 years to come to court is pretty shocking too. Waiting times in the justice system are just ludicrous at the moment.

Fixed. Regardless of the sentence handed out above as some form of comparison or being drunk, nobody should be touching a womans arse without consent.

Everyone knows the consequences are more severe when touching a copper or any member of our services for that matter.

I remember he was put on the sex offenders register, named and shamed in all the local newspapers and was given a criminal record.

wow talk about a (fairly) harmless mistake messing you up for life..... community service fine but sex offenders register? really?. many years ago at uni we had problem with noise complaints from our neighbours (fully justified, 2 of the housemates - not me - were out of order). for one of the guys 21st we hired a stripper and asked her to come as a police woman about a noise complaint.
the stripper arrived 10 mins early (god as my witness this story is true) we hussled the "police officer" in with the birthday boy sat in the middle of the room at which point i offered the police lady a wedge of cash as a room full of lads and lasses surrounded her as she informed us about the noise complaint.
glad it was not the officer who nabbed the bum slapper!. luckily she was a legend about it once we cleared it up - her partner was less amused iirc but that could have been because he was not with her in the 1st place, dunno why he let her go in alone to a house obviously full of people!. - and the actual stripper turned up a bit later - as a nurse!.

This is in Scotland so it will be the Crown Office or Procurator Fiscal Service.

i agree it was wrong but looking at how sentances are handed out these days - and not just the rape in the title here...... surely that was an over reaction - assuming that was the total of the story.

Sadly if the family attacked him, even if it's just a few slaps, they are likely to get a harsher punishment than this guy got. It's disgraceful.
