Community sentence for raping a 13 year old girl.

It's mad.

I'm all for rehabilitation for a lot of crimes, but not rape! You aren't going to rehab a rapist.

Same with murder.

Sorry you can't put these in the same category.

The former I agree.

Not the latter. There are plenty of occasions where someone might kill someone else and never do it again. I would actually condone it, in certain situations.

But yes raping anyone, but in particular a child is unforgivable.

What is with the SNP and rapists..

What is it with you blowing things out of proportion?

New guidelines came out. It's up to the judge to interpret and follow those guidelines. You can't blame someone else for the judge interpreting them in a certain way... The judge got it wrong in this instance, how is that the government's fault? - do the guidelines say "rapists under 25 must not be given a custodial sentence"?

You do come away with some silly statements at times (see your post above this very one as an example)

If the guidelines can be interpreted in such a way, they're wrong. When it comes to the law things must be explicitly clear.

So letting rapists off with a slap on the wrist or alternatively putting them in womens prisons is good policy to you?

No, but thanks for playing...

FYI - the government don't make the guidelines. That's up to the Scottish Sentencing Council which is an independent body so blaming the Scottish Government for this is your anti-SNP bias showing through...

That girl and her family should not have to run the risk of bumping in to that animal on the streets

Disgrace

It’s the big brain think tank coming out to trash another thread..

OT, since he was 17 when the terrible offence took place I can understand that might be taken in to account,
if we were talking a 13 year old child doing it then I could buy that (still i would expect some time in juvie tho not a complete walk)..... but 17 is old enough to get married, have a job, and essentially is an adult.... about the only thing they are not meant to do is drink (yeah right!)

my dad left school and had a full time job at 14. 17 is old enough to know right from wrong.

and someone else made a very good point. That girl may have to face seeing him every day on the street... That is not right.

it makes me wonder what would happen nowadays with the Bulger killers..... they really were kids.... would they get councilling and a pass these days?
