COMPANY OF HEROES 2

Played around 10 hours of the open beta. Panthers need a nerf. When playing as Soviets, they are so hard to kill, especially if there are 2 - 4 of them. As Germans, its so easy to keep panthers alive.

I had a game earlier with 1 panther, 2 snipers and 3 grenadier squads. Snipers seem so easy to keep alive, now you don't have stealth (or not to the same extent). Grenadiers had all gotten to Vet 3 without weapon upgrades. Eventually I got a second panther and killed 5 T-34/76's. They just can't pen me.

Its funny how its almost impossible to play anything above 2v2 thanks to either someone dropping making the match pointless or it been a completely lagged.

To be honest its actually embarrassing in 2013.

I know historically that Panthers & Tigers were very strong, but its not balanced. Sure russian tanks are cheaper in game, but if you have quite a few of them + infantry you get a lot of MP drain.

Indeed, as I said, 3 T-34s vs 1 Panther, and the Panther wins. The T-34s are probably 25%, but probably 80% less effective. It's not even close to balanced. I understand the T-34 is not the best tank available to the Russians, but still.

Its also an open beta after alpha, closed, stress test(LOL) what makes you think they will flick a magic switch and sort out the fact that PEER2PEER is a utter disgrace.

A lot of this seems to be level 1 players though. People who haven't bothered to set the game up and have gone straight into a MP game.

Been giving COH2 ago for the past day or so, previously have played many hundreds of hours of coh1 since it was launched.

What I don't like:

Cluttered interface.
Bad menus (coh1 was clean and smart).
Camera too zoomed in.
Hard to see some units/items dropped on the battlefield, again a sort of cluttered feel.
Graphics for things like cover circles etc seemed nicer or coh1.

What I like:

New explosion and flamethrower graphics.
Easier to see range for arty etc when placing.
Grouping half squads into one.
Able to tell a tank to reverse!

About all I can think of right now apart from some balance issues. But will continue to play and get use to it some more.

Panther is anti tank. T34 is more anti inf mixed with light at capabilities. The panther is going to win that battle all day. You need at plus a t34 to go against a panther.

At infantry take ages to kill a panther. The PTRS does barely any damage to a panther. Russian AT guns don't always penetrate frontally either. Added to that Panthers can kill infantry pretty easily as well.

Maybe you can kill one panther with at and infantry but what about 4? What if they support their panthers with arty, or offmap support.

I've played more games as Russia, not a huge amount as Germany but its so easy to win with panther spam.

SU-85 is designed to kill tanks. Can't effectively hurt a panther tho.

T34 is great for running over squads :) panthers are a pain but if you use AT guns and get in close with some AT nades or decent mine placement they can be handled ok.

Making use of the T34's ram ability is great for taking out Panthers or Tigers, not really worth it for Stugs or Panzer IVs as they should be ok taking them out with their maneuverability.
The ram ability isn't that expensive for munitions and has a 100% chance of taking out the enemy tanks main gun, plus a good chance to damage its engine to some degree.
Doing this alongside another anti tank unit is a great combo, even better if you can repair your tank afterwards which also gets pretty banged up from ramming.
Although even if you do lose it, you've still lost much less than the enemy tank, as the T34 is loads cheaper than the Panther.
So if the enemy has 4 Panthers, you should easily be able to get 4 T34s plus at least one AT gun.

Haven't played much since the stress test but started it again yesterday, I found one or two soviet players using the button function which seemed to button and kill tanks quite effectively.

Though the damage could have been nerfed now...

Soviet could probably do with a mid game AT infantry

Guards Rifle squads can still button down vehicles, with two or three squads they effectively get through most vehicles provided you have enough muntions to keep using the Button ability!

Played it last night with two mates, first round didn't go too bad with a mix of Infantry (I've always been Infantry based in games like this), but the second game lasted almost three hours until 2:45 this morning!

It was brilliant seeing the combined numbers of three players' worth of Conscripts and Guards rushing through a battlefield in true Russian spirit! :D :D

I have been trying the beta and initially my thoughts were very much what's changed, why pay again for the same, however after some amazingly intense battles with infantry all over the place, explosions, smoke etc I have ordered it, even if it doesn't represent a revolution it's enough for me to want to support the developers.

As to the framerate, with a 2500Ki at 4.2 and a 7950 I got a minimum of 22FPS and a Maximum of 59 FPS running at high res ("550 * something) with everything on
