You need to use the 'quote' system, and cite your source.

The 'opinion' is a copy and paste essay.

cumulus, are you doing research?

If so, firstly, the conception that the outside world see the Swiss as "pure, punctual, and precise" is archaic and incorrect.

with pure I agree with you, precise and ponctual no.

assuming it is an average of all full time workers it is prob about right, still the case that the average male wage is probably higher than that and the female wage lower

There's also the problem of what you define as an average wage of a full-time worker. Does the data have a mostly workers on 38 hour weeks - or does it include the majority of UK workers who now do a load of overtime just to get that average wage.

you have to take the average of 38 hours per week, here is 40 hours, in hotels and Restaurant allowed 42 hours.

I always assumed it included average overtime as the figure would be lower otherwise.

Most of our lads on the shopfloor earn only £16 to £18k basic but most earn high £20k's with overtime and bonus and half a dozen or so are well into the 30's.

Same at the last placed I worked with basic wage been £20k but quite a few could earn £40k+ with most earning £30k+

A sample of 42 in the same company is not even worth considering when it comes to a national average for anything.

I beleive the national average is likely brought down substantialy by those that don't work or are part time. Unless the average does not include them?

I would assume they are not included.Yep:

Occupation data is taken from the sub-major group level of the Standard Occupational Classification 2000.
The median is the value below which 50 per cent of employees fall.
Pay refers to gross pay (before tax) of full-time employees on adult rates whose pay for the survey week was unaffected by absence. Annual and weekly earnings include paid overtime.

Hmm surprised its the median, I had always assumed it was the mean. And full time employees only so not skewed by the jobless and part time. So with it been median, it;s a pretty fair guide of what people earn.

I lived there for a year and a half in the Berner Oberland. Worked as a barman in a hostel so I didn't earn much - less than 3000SF. Given that lifestyle I didn't have many expenses. Actually lived like a king in some ways. It's a great place - I found the locals extremely welcoming, especially the indigenous younger folk. Incredible mountains, lakes and loads to do if you're into nature or extreme stuff. Easily the prettiest place I've ever lived. Zurich and Geneva are as expensive as London, but everywhere else is not so bad. Can be expensive for tourists though.

I was at the doctors once and I forgot my insurance card. Said to the doc I'd pay in cash. He told me not to worry and just drop 20 francs in the charity box! I don't know about Britain, but that would never ever happen in Dublin!

That actually makes me sad inside :(

The GBP has dropped so much against the major currencies that its become a joke, really makes you want to move to a different country.

Back on topic, yes pay is higher in Swizterland, but is veryyyy expensive, a lot more then the UK anyway, UK is actually cheaper then most, if not ALL western european countries! This again makes me sad (lol) as prices have increased so much recently, but we are still cheaper...makes you think how cheap we had it when prices were lower!
