Competitors - a clarification

I wasn't even aware Nath did anything wrong. I found him quite funny to slate other mods because it's true.

He didn't really, he came in to try and ease the tensions raised by the no competitor talk thread but made a bit of a slip up by dismissing the forums as less than 10% of the overall business. Fair enough it was a bit of a mistake but nothing to be shouted at for.

All his posts in that "rules?" thread

Damn I spend the whole weekend doing RL stuff and it all kicks off in the gaming section.

I was tempted to ask what's happening in October in the UK but since I live in Belgium where nothing ever happens (websites have just started using flash overhere... :-) ) I don't want to know I just know I won't be able to get it anyway :o:(

So I've missed all this... can I get a TL;DR summary?

First impressions it seems like a load of people bored on a Friday night so they on antagonising on the Ocuk forums :p

Don't see why people are bothered about the 10% thing. It's interesting to know but if OcUK's only business came from the forum then they wouldn't be a very profitable company.

Can also see why they do free delivery because if they gave free delivery to 100% of their customers then they'd be losing thousands.

Tried to force a rule that clearly didn't come from OcUK to begin with (Hence why it's been revised god knows how many times), that contradicted the rule we've been told to follow before.
Valkia Made no effort for a calm and clarified statement to the matter, just raged and threw his weight around. Enforcing that because "he purchased the games" he had the final say on it.
Closed and deleted threads that were just asking for clarification / a sticky.
Valkia Banned Neil for a thread made before this rule was even mentioned, without warning.
Valkia Held Neil hostage until the forum agreed to his rules, only unbanning him when he realised it wasn't going to happen.
Valkia Banned two other members that had to wait for Telliscopi to unban them the next day.
Valkia Sent threatening emails to some members outside of the forums (and without trust).
Generally stirred up a PR ****storm and represented OcUK in a terrible fashion that could have been avoided from five minutes in / Acted like a teenager despite being a big boy now.

I can't think of one company that would be sane to let a staff member act to customers in that way without some kind of action being taken.

There will be an annoucement shortly.

I understand a lot of people are upset with me, for that I apologise. I was trying to help.

Thanks for that update Nath. Tbh I believe it was the whole situation and the manner in which it appeared to be handled at the time that riled a lot of feelings, rather than your comments alone. I appreciate your comments quoted above and look fwd to the statement that will no doubt lay the rules out clearly and concisely. Then I beleive that everyone will be in agreement that a line can be drawn and we carry on.

lol the new update and announcement do NOTHING to solve this problem. zero common sense at all it seems.

Agreed.... so if we can't mention the Rainforest place surely that Kindle thread needs to be nuked ? no ? or am I seriously missing the point of something here because the situation still appears no more clarified than it was before Valkia-gate

I'm going to sound mad in this post, but oh well.

What if we, the users, started donating money for the upkeep of the forum and removed the OcUK branding from it (but still keeping close ties with the shop) and thus allowing competitor talk?

The Forum is part of the OcUK's business so forget it.

Aye, the forum is a very clever marketing/business tool.

Other etailers would LOVE to have this kind of relationship with its customers.

Not the relationship we have had over the weekend though, of course - lol

Some are trying, but I think they got in to it too late.

Nothing about Valkia and his punishment OR EVEN AN APOLOGY!, that was expected really :o

i wasnt around yesterday but sending threatening emails is completely out of order. no matter how much trolling went on i wouldnt expect a don to behave like that. should be permabanned imo

I don't think that'd work considering he's also a store employee.

Thus one of the reasons most of the community was so up in arms about what happened. We aren't exclusively spotty teens with nought but pocket money and we know it.
