Competitors, clarification

I really can't see why certain members have a problem with this.

The plain fact of the matter is that this is the forum of OcUK, an online hardware retailer, therefore it would be quite obvious that the mentioning of names of any other businesses that sell similar products would not be admitted.

Deal with it and stay, don't deal with it and leave, simple.
Obviously there's bound to be the odd slip-up or faux pas now and again.

Long live the forums !!!

Couldn't agree more. Its not hard really, is it? ;)

I am sorry, but I agree with Spie and OcUK

The rules are their for us to follow, if you can not follow simple rules, you do not belong here, simple as that...

I can only thank Spie and the crew for having these forums in the first place.
Thank you.

Following rules was never the issue.

Yes it was, nobody followed this rule:

If you are unhappy about a particular forum, you should contact the relevant Don direct by e-mail, ICQ or MSN with the problem. Please do not post topics such as "Why was my post edited/locked/deleted etc".

:)

no problem! at least im the first to say it since the re-opening! :D

wyrdo,

I beg to differ, why do you think a lot of people have been suspended or/or banned when mentioning a competitor? :)

Well considering i dont mention coompetitors and didnt even post in the thread that was deleted about one of them - i still got suspended.....

With no explination either.

Good alternative forum for consoles is avforums, you're free to talk about deals and other malarkey there and theres separate forums for xbox, ps etc so less fanboy post wars. I'm sure I posted this but theres no sign, if a mod edited it then edit this post telling me to shutup please. Although another forum surely isnt a competitor if it's not linked to a a retail/business entity ?

Edit
Just checked theres 233 previous posts with the word avforums so hopefully it's ok to mention them.

Ditto.

Wow so many members posts being deleted. I guess you could look at it like this.

If inn you home say you don't like swearing, smoking or people gen not respecting the fact that they'e in your home after a while you's show them the door. It works the same way here. I got a little holiday for forgeting to fully star out a swear word I normaly do but that time I just forgot anyway I sent a little message saying sorry for my mistake and waite the week.

Catch me on MSN, same goes to andybtsn or email me and ask.

Just ask and ye shall be told. :)

This obsession with sites that cant be mentioned, has actually made me look at the product ranges on the sites that cant be mentioned... its had a reverse effect in my situation lol

Supermarkets should be classed as competitors IMO, theres loads of places out there whos main selling point is not PC/Console gear either just like them, yet they can't be mentioned, its no good having different rules. :)

As I just mentioned in another thread they can't be linked to in here. Its other forums (GD for example) where they can still be mentioned. The discussions won't be about competing hardware or whatever there, it'll be about food or clothing or whatever :)

Ahh i see now, so you could go in there and mention a certain place if your talking about DVD movies or books then, as you won't be talking about PC/Console gear in those forums. :p

But the sites that your are refering to often advertise competing products so surely regardless of what part of the forums it is still a competitor !

Two of the big supermarkets and I have just checked have either a picture of a competing product or a link. In one instance both of the examples I have just mentioned!

SO I can go and post in GD about a hot offer in a Supermarket on a bag of apples even though said Supermarket sells 360 stuff/PC stuff? I think things have to be worked out a little more indepth personaly. If you go to MS website they have articles on buying XP etc and yet we are allowed to mention them even though OCUK sell the same product..

probably regret posting this but hey ho.

But surely you realise some people on here who have a grudge against OCUK now due to this new ruling will abuse this in GD. They can easliy disguise their post to link to a console product or PC product on the supermarket website..

It's really not that complicated. If you do end up talking about a supermaket in another forum such as GD, you're unlikely going to be talking about gaming at all, sure they'll have a link to games etc on their site, but as long as you're not linking directly to them you're okay. It's similar to the way certain big sites were allowed to be talked about as long as PC hardware was not used or linked, but those sites are now outright banned in this forum now anyway.
