Complete and absolute novice

That was Liberty MCT near Uxbridge. Googling them now the reviews now reflect my experience!
I did my DAS with 1on1 Rider Training near Bedford and they were very good.

When I was doing my Mod 2 training this poor chap took 2 days to do his CBT. I don't even know if he finished. He was getting baffled when he got to roundabouts. He wasn't from the UK though in his defence.

Some say he is still trying to find the exit on his 50cc moped

My CBT ended up into two days after some delays and the instructor wanting to leave early. Anyway CBT 2nd day I was joined by another older guy also doing 2nd day CBT who was not there on first day of CBT and was new to the Instructor. Before setting off got chatting he was wanting to get his full motorcycle license to get a Harley Davidson and surprise his mates and join them on their Harley D's.

During our 2nd day CBT this guy was riding the motorcycle like a bicycle i.e. staying on the left hand side of the road all the time along the gutter !?!!!. Instructor was not impressed and got pretty angry with the guy as he kept on doing it after being told off.

But the worse part at some traffic lights we were turning right the older guy was at front at the lights and I was behind the instructor waiting on our motorcycles. Light go green and this old guy decides to gun it and beat all the traffic coming towards us, I could not believe it the instructor went ape on the radio. When we got further down the road the instructor pulled us in and instructor gave the guy a right b*ll*cking. Me personally I would never try and beat the traffic at lights turning right onto oncoming traffic never mind doing it on at CBT. When we got back to Motorcycle training centre the old guy was told he need more training dear knows if he passed his CBT, Me I got my CBT certificate and I was happy.

A girl in my group failed it but that was more down to the instructor.
She wasn't confident at all and the 'instructor' just kept telling her it was easy. After about an hour she dropped the scooter, he shouted at her, she cried and then he told her to leave. Again, she wasn't English so there was a bit of a language barrier but the instructor was just a total bell end.

Sounds like a lovely people person, just what you need for teaching nervous new riders.... the mind absolutely boggles at some people who do these jobs

The guy who done my 2nd CBT after the first was abruptly ended by some donkey being carted off in an ambulance was a proper hippy biker hair half way down his back, definitely dabbled in pot and almost certainly spent the 60's in a haze of pot smoke and acid trips top bloke though.

The girl who was on it with me was a proper girly girl with a massive chest.

How I kept concentration long enough between his so bad they were funny jokes and her cleavage to get through it I'll never know.

During my CBT I had an arrogant spoiled teen who rode a moped, a very mature teen girl for her age. They were both 16 so mopeds only, I was with a guy 1 or 2 years older than me who was really clumsy and dropped CG125 on my leg straight off the stand... He was alright though, apart from that drop. :p

Been invited to another place to go check out the bikes they use for the CBT and see what's what before I book. Will give me a bit of an overview of the day and the bikes, for no charge.

That sounds better, you'll find most places while they are a business first and foremost obviously they're also usually run by passionate bikers so they're happy to get you down and let you have a look around and explain things to you without just trying to make money out of you.

Where I did all of my motorcycle training. It wasn't the cheapest in my area nor did it have the best facilities but the people who ran it were all so good it made it such an enjoyable experience. Really casual with you yet they were able to train you to a very high standard.

The trainers made all of the difference

Yeah, it's great saying 'just to your DAS' but I need it for commuting PDQ. I start my new job in less than 2 weeks, CBT will be difficult to fit in never mind DAS.

There are no decent second-hand 125s within a 50 mile ratio, at least that I can find.

[edit]I don't necessarily need it to start my commuting, but soon after would be good.

I had to do the same when I started a new job 2 years ago, I did my CBT and grabbed a 125 not long after starting work. It was 125 or 3 trains at a cost of £150 a month to get to work and back.

Get your CBT done ASAP. Not sure if you're already said - how far is your commute? town or DC/NSL roads? I'd plan on spending the next few months on the 125 and getting your full test done before winter really kicks in.

There's 915 125 bikes on AT within 50 miles of Leeds city center, they can't all be ****.

The vast majority are scooters though.

There's a CB125F not far from me, but second-hand and priced at £2,298 it seems daft. Even if I knock them down a bit the lack of warranty and so on afforded by a bike I actually want seems to make more sense to me?

My commute is about 15 miles and culminates in city centre riding.

There's a couple of YBRs, CBFs and CBRs on there for around the thousand pound mark from a quick look.

You'll make that back when you come to sell it no problem.

Just found this:

£2,399 Honda CB125 F Commuter 125cc

Being sold at that brand new. 2 year warranty, roadside assistance and 0% finance available. It's not as nice as the MT-125 but is almost half the price.

125s are a funny bike as they do hold there value, not sure of your age but check out insurance as it can be huge, bike depending.

My CBT was great, although i could already ride, two of the lads had never even sat on a bike with its engine running. At the end of the day they were fine and the instructor was great with them, never once did he pressure them, it was all at a good pace and it was zero to hero.

I would also try do a DAS as it will save you money in the long run, i know you say time is short but some places will do it on the evenings and just a case of getting time off to do the Tests.

Yeah, I'm a single parent at the moment with sole custody. Evenings are out. Going to be on a 125 for a while to come. I can't see DAS happening this side of winter.

Then use the time to learn. A 125 is the best thing to learn tyre limits in the winter months as the power wont push the tyre as much a bigger bike would
