Complete and absolute novice

Yeah, I'd just get yourself on a 125 for the rest of summer and winter, remembering that you'll need some warm and waterproof kit for commuting through winter.

6-9 month experience on a 125 commuting will mean you'll only 3 days DAS training to pass.

I see no real problems with buying a new 125, I did it. I got £300 off the RRP of my CBR without really trying. You can pick up the CBF brand new for <£2300, even less if you push hard. 2 year warranty, breakdown cover, tax, fee's etc. all included. Seems like a bargain to me. Go for it! :)

Just found this:

£2,399 Honda CB125 F Commuter 125cc

Being sold at that brand new. 2 year warranty, roadside assistance and 0% finance available. It's not as nice as the MT-125 but is almost half the price.

Hey Gilly, my girlfriend and I bought one of these new July last year and did our CBTs with the intention of rocking that for 2 years then doing the DAS. I specifically wanted a new bike because she uses it for work occasionally and I didn't want her riding a used one with me not being 100% sure what to look for to find a good bike...

Been a cracking bike to learn on, don't worry about pre-CBT or anything else they try and flog you, my OH had literally never sat on a bike before, we went and did the CBT on twist and gos then we went to the Honda dealer and she rode the geared bike home. A fter a few miles riding arond country roads and practising a few hill starts and various other techniques you'll be fine :)

I've been to one of the local CBT centres, had a bit of a ride, quite happy with controls, etc. Just waiting on my new job starting so I can understand where I'll be and so on before I book my CBT :)

A 125 for £2,300 is a bargain, when you can pick up a decent SV650 (or something) for the same and will have to swallow hilarious depreciation on the 125? Disagree.

I started on a second hand YBR125 and was wanting more within days. It was fine because I sold it for the same as I paid for it, which is not going to be the case with a new 125.
