Computer or ps3?

PS3. Playing with your friends makes it much better than enjoying better graphics by yourself. Save the PC plans for another time, christmas maybe. Which isnt aggggeeeeeessssss away btw and will come quicker than you think!

Having both is the best so just look to build up a cheaper system later, but for now at your age you'll be just fine on a console.

This - be sociable and get a PS3 - they're not 'that' bad. They're still enjoyable, you can still game online, ou don't need to upgrade it, you can play with all you real life friends (much better than online randoms) and you can all take your controlers round to each others places and all play splitscreen!
Also it'll be so much less technical for you to worry about stuff going wrong.

Seriously, go PS3.

PC can always be done later on! <- It's exactly what I did!! (although when I made the decision I was getting the new exciting PS2 lol)

As someone with both a PS3 and a PC - I highly reccomend grabbing the PC, and only getting the PS3 if you can afford it AS WELL. Since I got my PC, my PS3 has been demoted to the position of BluRay player, plus a couple of hours of KillZone 2.

You might think that no one plays PC games, but since I started playing, they seem to be coming out of the woodwork. I even managed to get a 5-person CSS LAN going at my uni halls, and that's just people on my floor.

Besides, if your friends have PS3s, you can play split screen at theirs without shelling out anything.

PC gaming is only one side to the hobby. The hardware being the other. So I think the only answer to this question depends on how much time and money you are willing to invest.

If the answer is none or hardly for either, then I think you're best off with an out-of-the box console to be honest. However, PC gaming and the hardware side does become addictive. It's always going to be the bleeding edge of technology despite the lack of software taking advantage. It can be expensive.. but what hobby isn't :)

I've often thought about just having a console, but I enjoy the hardware element too much.

What you do is not steal £300 for the PS3 what oyu should do is thell them that you want to uild the PC for extra credit or as a project but also what to have the PS3 so u dont lose ur mates

By doing it that way you get both and only telling a small lie and not robbing them blind like J-FRO surgested

i own a reasonable pc and a ps3, and in all honesty, the pc is used 3-4 times a week, the ps3 is used 1-2 a month if that. the ps3 is good if you just want to go shopping, pick up a game, go home, pop it in and off you go. the pc on the other hand you have to install and then configure the settings to suit your system, but the difference can be imense. i dont have an awesome pc, but on the games i managed to compare like for like (FIFA11, F1 2010, DiRt2, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, Batman AA, and some others) the graphics, smoothness in controll and overall gameplay was very noticably better on the pc. dont get me wrong, consoles are cheaper to buy and if you dont pirate pc games then price in games is pretty close, and ps3 is idiot proof, so for 99% of gamers its the console is the ideal option. for someone that wants to be able to better their gameplay by upgrading/overclocking, and people that just like to fiddle and tweak, then the pc wins every time.
what im trying to say is, its comes down to money, how compitent the user is, and personal preference. for me, the pc wins every time, for most, the ease of just knowing the console will accept any game without the need to download driver updates or buy a new graphics card makes it the perfect option.
so overall, i dont think i have actually said which you should get, so ummm..........a bit pointless.

Get a PS3, you could probably afford every game ever released for it because...

I do like my PS3 however there is always one main aspect of PC gaming that always gets me back logging into my Steam account and firing up PC games..

It’s the ability to control the graphic settings and turn some darn v sync on.. the PS3 has so many games where screen tearing is just abundantly apparent its just a joke at times. PS3 is awesome for gaming socially and it’s a great companion to a PC, I have always recommended a PC gaming rig coupled with a PS3 for the many PS3 exclusives…

But F1 2010, Dirt 2, Grid, AC 1, 2 and Brotherhood and many many more all suffer from either variable v ysnc or no v sync at all and you get screen tearing.. And, many PS3 games can barely manage 720p with some type of limited AA or no AA applied at all..

PC gaming for single player is without doubt superior, even to the xbox360. Steam community goes a long way to making PC online a good choice, only need to look at left 4 dead for examples of this..

PS3 is a great media machine with the ability to play fantastic exclusives, however if it’s a single player game, and its out on PC and you have good gaming rig, PC will walk all over it. Its actually hard to believe the even PS3 exclusive titles suffer from degraded v sync (Heavy Rain and GT5 for example).

It’s a tough choice, but sadly as much as I do like the Sony PS3 platform its hard to say it’s the only choice. A good gaming PC offers a lot, and a lot of configurable options and you can have the game how you want it, not how the developer feels it should be when on a games console…

This is all IMO, others might disagree…

suure... spending 600 quid on the ps4 isnt upgrading it...

lol rather have a pc you can upgrade 1 card to get better graphics
than have to wait months/years for the latest version of the console just for better graphics...

oh and mods for games... pc modding comunity is better...
its a no brainer if u pick ps3 your NOT a gamer... simple :)
mouse+ keyboard owns controll pad

I hate steam its BS, you have to install it, always runs in the background and even if you buy the disc version of a game you still have to install steam and be connected to internet just to play the game. Sounds awfully like a console or even a console doesn't require you to be online to play single palyer.

The likes of Steam are killing off the freedom on PC and turning it a console.

u only have to activate the gameonline to play it
steams a brilliant idea tbh if ur to dumb to figure it out.. dont bother gaming

doing away with disks = awesomeness
steam uses NAFF all resourses to the point with steam running i dile at 1% cpu usage..

go back to your crappy ps3 n keep getting ripped off with games n out of date hardware...

if you want to play online with mates, get a ps3 (i have an xbox for exactly that reason)

if you dont care about online, or are happy to play with randoms then get a PC if your folks will let you get a good one.

the games on a pc are cheaper, graphically look better, and some games just dont work well on a pad. (some work better on a pad, but that is what a wired 360 controller OR a wireless one + xbox crossfire adapter is for).

if i had to choose 1 it would be a console over a pc, but that is purely down to the socialbiliy of playing with my friends who are across the country (I am no girl hence dont do the whole phoning thing - i prefer to chat whilst killing stuff ;) )

Think many will disagree. Its quite pro steam around here, I too don’t agree that steam is killing the PC. Steam runs in the background, but then so do a lot of other applications and Steam isn’t a huge resource hog.

Its much more convenient to have all your games installed and not need to put a disc in if you ask me. Why do you think so many used no DVD patches for their games until Steam become more popular?

And you can run steam in offline mode and play games without being connected. Once you connect it just syncs your cloud saves if the game supports it, and you’re done. You might need to be connected to the internet to install a new steam game or buy one, but you don’t need to be online to play it. Just authenticate, then set to offline and you’re good to go..

Steam, IMO is not killing PC gaming freedom off. I think that’s a ridiculous statement. Each to their own, sure some will agree with me though.

steam was pretty poo when it first cam out i must say but now hell u get good games at good prices at times and its all in one area and all up to date versions of the game :)

also to add my vote i would say pc as wince ur at school still it would show ur working hard at school with research and stuff :)
