Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Thanks for the heads up Glaucus, I am downloading it via Technet now. It should be downloaded by the time I get home for work, and then I can give it a try on my laptop. I'm looking forward to the improvements in Hyper-V a try, as well as getting the start button back :D

You do realise its just a button and functions exactly the same as the hot corner, it is not the start menu.

Right says install from iso file (not yet available) or from the store, I don't see anything in the store either.

* boot to desktop confirmed
* start button confirmed

Loving the whole bing thing, it's been fully opened up to developers, so expect some call third party apps, latter in the year.

Nice, gesture keyboard for you touchscreen users.

Rather than removing hand and slecting the suggested word, you just slide along the space bar.

Yay hands free (for the kitchen, I do use tablets as cook books), that is useful and about time seeing as other platforms, well mainly android already have it.

Taken from the page linked to by Glaucus above:

"ISO files are not yet available
You can install Windows 8.1 Preview through the Windows Store or by using ISO files. Windows 8.1 Preview ISO files will be made available on this site within the next day, so please check back. ISO files for Windows 8.1 Preview will be available in Arabic, English (US), Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish. For more information about installing ISO files and the specific delivery methods for the preview, please see “How do I install Windows 8.1 Preview?” in the FAQ."

So there you have it!

How do l install Windows 8.1 Preview?
There are two ways to install Windows 8.1 Preview: through the Windows Store or through the ISO.

If you're running Windows 8 in one of the 13 languages that the preview is available in, we strongly recommend that you download the preview from the Windows Store. When you install from the Store, you can't create installation media but must download the preview directly from the Windows Store. If you're running Windows RT, the only way you can update is through the Store. To see if you can update through the Store, see Download Windows 8.1 Preview.

If you looka round, you download the small update file, which then enables a 2GB download in the store to upgrade.
But that file doesn't seem to work, or perhaps we need to change to English(us)

The bodged beta launch, this is not a customer release, give it a bit of time.ii

The pro tablet movement has been good for where. It's been released, but that is by and far. The biggest bodge, is the lack of decent hardware and availability. Lets hope they learn and we get lots of tasty haswell/win8.1 machines on release day.
So far all the rumours are looking very positive for the next gen hardware and being as powerful as you can get.
