You might have just converted me from cancelling my E6600 order and going for a X6800

Its amazing mate, and I aint overclocked it yet :) and its always nice to go into the BIOS and see the multiplier unlocked :)

So stelly, what's the state of play at the moment? You've obviously got it at least working, if without RAID. Had any luck clocking it yet? Got any benchmarks results? Temps?

I'm getting very twitchy about making this upgrade, seem to be a lot of problems, but some straggering results too. Even a moderately overclocked conro will get half what I do at superpi and for 3dmark06 the CPU score at 3.4ghz is 3 times what i get with a single core opty. Anyway, i'm watching this space.

Nah he doesnt use quality forums like this... I promise to post some tonight, any benchie requests??

Sounds like people are having a nightmare with Conroe setups in this thread.

Hurrah for early adopters! :p

I think I'll wait until the nForce SLI Conroe boards have been out for a bit before upgrading.

I made the mistake of early adopting when the Abit NF7-S mobo 1st came out. Took Abit 6 months to resolve the SATA controller data corruption issue which stopped me from using my RAID 0 array.

Never again!

I think I'll throw some money at my Home Cinema install & upgrade the PC again after Xmas.

Anybody got a Conroe under an evap head yet?
I'd be interested to see how these perform sub-zero.

No, you need just the core (if P4 & A64) covered because...

the quote you refer to must be old

as nowadays all processors have heatspreads ontop of the core

stands to reason that as this is spreading the heat of the core all over the cover, youd want all of this head dissipated as well as possible

not just the heat in the middle. that is after all the point of a heatspreadder ...

if you remember athlon XPs didnt have heatspreaders, and they only needed AS on the core.

Man that must've been annoying. I hate it when computer hardware doesn't "work", and to find out that it was something that you didn't even do must be really frustrating!

Still, at least you're up and running now - all good things come to those that wait n' all that.

But I'm sure I've seen people on these forums take the heatspreaders off their CPUs cause they said it provided better contact with the heatsink...
