Us X6800'ers have to stick together! E6600 pfft :D

:D lol thats ok,

When I get the E6600 and clock it together with my direct x10 card, my GPU will still be the bottleneck. I will then look at the £500 saving I made a buy another GPU, oh and the GPU will STILL be the bottleneck.

The E6600 will be the most sort after cpu in the range IMO. We E6600 will have to stick together and there'll be a lot more of us than you lot, so watch it :D

In effect the E6600 does represent better value for money. My comment above was aimed at those hoping to hit around 3.7ghz (on air) for everyday use. The fsb strain on the motherboards is too great atm, anything over 400fsb is too random, other conditions come into play too (the very best clocking boards do not run Crossfire atm, most have a single PCIEX16 and a PCIE X4), the Asus boards can clock well, but that too is random.

In all other cases the E6600 is better value.

Thats why you wait before moving over if you already have a decent rig. All these issues will be resolved in about 6 weeks... things are going to come together quite nicely when dx10 is released...oh quite nicely idd!!!

I think its just a case of CAN people afford the more expensive CPU's? The X6800 can hit 5GHZ+ which i would have thought is value for the money. And with the unlocked multi pfft :p . If you all could easily afford the X6800 you would get it no?

most would probably get it, for the part, the x6800 only shows it's value when on phase cooling.

me again :o ,

I've been up all night trying to get 3.4 out of my X6800 but still no joy, the highest stable clock I can get out of the cpu is 3.2, a measly 200mhz o/c, I even went mad and raised the core voltage upto 1.55 and still no joy, do you guys think that there is a real possibility that it could be my m/b or have I just got a bum chip :(, I temped to get the DS4 but I don't want to purchase another m/b and have the same issues.

Hi Lowrider,

Can I ask a big favour?

Can you please start a seperate thread for this? I only ask as the details are getting sketchy, so it's hard to see what other hardware you've got and have tips you may have tried already.

regards

been in that situation before with an FX chip that barely overclocked in a Gigabyte mobo, & when it did oc it was so unstable. tried a different mobo & problem solved.

ide be inclined to point the finger at the mobo first before i start wondering about the cpu, tho do keep in mind there are no garuntees, not even with top of the range cpu's. ;)

sorry if i've derailed the thread guys, if I have any further issues I'll wack a thread in the "Overclocking & Cooling" section

Stelly, If I was to send you my X6800 by rmsd (return money included) would you be up for testing it out, that way I would know 100% if it's the cpu or not, if no then np mate.

Hi mate,

Sorry, I did not mean that you had gone off topic. Basically I was trying to work out everything you had already tried, the thread's quite long so it was gonna be a difficult task. That's the only reason I mentioned anything.

I was looking at trying to help you out, but did not want to repeat anything that had already been mentioned..

Raja

PS have you tried posting about this at XS?

You could try sending it to Asgard. He seems more "into" conroe overclocking than anyone else on these forums. For sure he will find out what the limits of the cpu are, very quickly. He has a range of motherboards and cooling systems to test your cpu with.

thats allright mate, I did'nt take the wrong way :) , like you said, it would have been better posting it in a seperate thread anyway for the reasons you stated, yes I have posted in XS and they recomend me trying a different m/b, pretty much what what I've been advised to do here also, so thats the next thing I'm going to try.

On LN2 though, so hardly a fair point.

I'd probably buy the X6800 if I had more confidence in the boards out at the moment hitting high FSB without issues.
