Consequences of crash?

No doubt I'm probably going to crash tomorrow now I've said this, TBH I'm not sure really how you could have a head-on in an overtake.
If you can't see because of a dip/corner you shouldn't be performing an overtake.
If you're part-way through and an approaching car comes on the horizon you either floor it to complete the overtake sooner (though I always overtake at warp 10 anyways to get it finished ASAP and get back on the correct side of the road) or you would brake and duck back in behind the vehicle you were over taking. Unless the vehicle you're overtaking is a **** and not maintaining a consistent speed, you're not going to get stuck on the wrong side of the road.

He mentioned his friend had to be cut out of the car , no mention of any injuries to the person he hit.

10 Pence short on PH proved that if you injure somebody severely, and have a queue of people going to the police telling them you drove like a tool - you can indeed go to jail.

His scenario was very similar to this, in fact his was less severe as he wasn't overtaking at the time, just on the wrong side of the white lines as he was pushing on.

That is very much an exception to the rule, especially if you have no previous criminal history and the accident hasn't caused a death.

Devils advocate, what if whoever he was overtaking did the whole boot it as someone passes trick that is so dangerous?

This probably isn't the case but can cause some sticky situations :p

Just brake and pull back in behind them?

No definitely not drunk, it was in the morning.

More like a mix of bad driver, fairly powerful car (it was cupra) and a fair old chunk of stupidity.

Maybe he should drive a powerful car (without anyone within 10miles, on a closed track, with an instructor) then he willl realise what a fairly powerful car is.

He drives......drove, a 150ish hp seat shopping trolley on rimzzz........ ;)

Just googled 10 pence short pistonheads. That's some sobering stuff!

Yup it is and could happen to many of us.

These days he resides in parking ticket threads telling everyone how they're going to court as these PPC will get them since the OCtober law change :p

This becomes much more entertaining if the vehicle you are trying to pull in behind starts braking as well...

I did clarify my prison comments saying it would depend entirely upon circumstances.

But my point still stands that for crashing whilst overtaking he could be charged with Dangerous Driving and do Jailtime for it if he severely injured the other party and had witnesses saying he was driving like a tool.

) or you would brake and duck back in behind the vehicle you were over taking.

You'd have thought that for most vehicles, decelerating from say, 60/70 down to 30 and getting in behind the car travelling 50 would be something you could do more quickly than completing the overtake or increasing your speed further to complete the overtake.

It sounds like he might have tried to overtake on a bend or somewhere where he couldn't see ahead because you'd have thought he would have taken evasive action whereas this looks to just be entirely head on.
