Considering buying a console...

Ok, well I'm not intentionally trying to start a war here (I have both).

My aim wasn't to damn the 360 in anyway, just saying all consoles have had a dry period of games until recently, moreso the PS3. Also, I realise some of the best games are multi platform but targeted my reply specific to the PS3 as the original poster wanted to know if he should wait for such games to arrive on the PS3.

As for PS3 reliability, I've had no issues.. whereas the reliability of the 360 has always been mediocre at best. Personally, I'm on my second 360 and friends, more. I suppose it boils down to individuals but i'm merely stating facts when I say PS3 > 360 (for reliability).

You really don't need to quadruple quote me, I already know your a 360 fanboy ;)

there is always a dry patch over the summer. Its traditionally a time where nobody releases games. For 360 we've had The Darkness, Bioshock, Fifa 08, Halo 3, Stuntman Ignition and SKate just off the top of my head. Thats far far better than usual.

so what is the outcome, what has the OP brought

Indeed thats what i want to know but having to wade through 4 pages of petty fanboy arguements is kinda boring and really grating.

Wouldnt be surprised if the OP decided not to buy either console with the amount of arguing in here :/

BTW McManicMan, soz for not accepting your game invite last night...was too busy trying to finish off Halo3 SP mode...still didnt finish it, hoping tonight i can finally finish it off:).

I'd say get the 360, pricewise the 360 and ps3 cost the same because of the live subscription, but the 360 has more and better exclusive games, however the countless failures of the dvd drives and capacitors makes me a little weary of them. Then there is the jet engine like dvd drive.

Eh, a new 360 Premium is £260 with 3 games, including Gears Of War, GRAW and something else.

Plus Live can be payed for monthly and of course you get a months free, even so that's still only about £310 if you pay for a whole year.

Well I don't know about you, but I tend to have a console for more than 1 year, more like 5. So I always factor that into my purchase descisions.

But you're not paying that cost at that moment in time so I don't see how it's relevant.

Whether it has to be paid now or later doesn't matter to me though as I have enough money in the bank to pay the full amount at once. All that I'm interested in is the total amount of money I have to spend. I actually prefer paying for something all at once, as I'm never in someones debt or have to worry about price rises in the future.

You are, and I don't even post here much to realise that.

I'm anything but a fanboy. I love all consoles and all games, but it's clearly obvious to anyone with a shred of common sense that the Xbox360 is the strongest console in terms of games of all 3.

After reading this huge thread! I have decided to go for the Xbox elite
Ive found a place thats selling the Elite, wireless adapter, and Halo 3 for £380

So... Now im wondering if can connect it to my Sammy 226BW screen using a HDMI to DVI cable, as i wont have access to my living room TV all of the time ;)
I've read that the Elite console comes with an HDMI cable and a audio adapter, so i guess if i use DVI i can still get sound by using the adapter?

Any help is appreciated ;)

Cheers for all the replies

I use dvi on my samsung hd tv and you only need a dvi to hdmi adapter as you get the hdmi lead with the elite.
And yes the sound is ok with the sound adapter you get with the elite

Nice one thanks, just got to hunt out the adapter then :)

Is there any set standard of adapter? or can i just buy anyone?

and not everyone has reliablity problems and the problem is becomming a mute point now if buying a newer console

Not really -because MS havent actually changed anything, and even when they do it will take time for present stock to get bought

Just laughs at the people trying to compare isolated incidences of PS3 failures to the massively reported /huge numbers of returned X360's

No more proof of fanboyism required

Hope the OP is happy with his elite - have fun!!!
