Console Failure Rates

Luckily, I havent had a console die on me, ever.
That includes SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, PS2, PS3 and three Xbox 360 consoles.

All still going strong

My original Xbox 360 is still going strong, and its a launch console. :)

although I do repairs on 360s and I've had loads to repair. Just luckily none are mine :D

Launch PS3 lasted 5 years before replacing and my launch 360 still runs fine to this day as long as I have it horizontal. :P If I position it vertical it red rings straight away but will rock for hours on it's back (lol).

I've never had anything fail on me. My PS3 is just past the 5 year mark, and to be honest I think it's on its last legs - fans blowing pretty hard quite often. I'm just hoping it lasts until I get a PS4!

I had three Xbox 360s fail on me. All were replaced under warranty.

I did eventually buy a new one, however that was not because of a failure, but simply because I wanted more harddrive space and it worked out cheaper to buy a new machine that came with higher capacity and then sell the old one.

I'm sure most who had red ring issues and were first owners warrantied them.

My 1998 n64 still works as well as the day I was given it for christmas. I am ashamed no other console has lasted that long...

More things to go wrong in them since. All cartridge consoles are incredibly simple with very little to go wrong. Completely incomparable.

Launch 360 RRoD twice and repaired twice within 2 years. Then it died out of warranty and bought a new one which lasted me another 2 years before i sold it.

PS3 slim from 2011 still going strong although it mostly gets used as a netflix box :)

I had 2 360s break both kinda my fault.

I plugged my US console into the UK mains when i swapped the kettle leads over on the power bricks by mistake 240v into 110v dont go very well, bang fizz broken console..

My other traveling console got full of dust and fluff and cooked itself, to be fair it had flown around the world at least twice beaten to death by BA ground crew and sucked up dust on 4 continents. The insides looked like a birds nest when i opened it up.

Have an Xbox 360 premium I think it was called (60GB one) for ages, never failed. Had an original PS3 for even longer, got that in 2007 I think? and that hasn't failed :/.

have had hardware failures on both 360 and PS3, which is why this time around I will not get a PS4 or X1 at launch.

the failure rates of these things is absurd and unacceptable. they should last a lot longer like we would expect of any other electrical item.

I will wait for the teething problems to be sorted before I shell out any cash.

Got 2x launch day 360's and a 250gb slim. Both launch days have suffered RROD, but both got repaired by me once and have worked perfect ever since. PS3 has had no problems but I'd guess it's total hours are less than 10% of my 360's.

Either way it won't affect my choice on next gen, games are what matters and right now X1 has better games IMO.

360 elite never failed, phat launch 60gb failes after a good 4 years. ylod, fixed it a few times then got a slim, slim has been fine

I'm on my 4th ps3 and even this one has an issue where the power randomly cuts out lol.

with is being so close to the ps4 launch theres no point me getting another.

Sometimes it runs for hours sometimes it runs for 5 minutes.

They have been very unreliable for me personally. Its the only console iv ever owned where iv had to buy more than one.
